Thanks all. I’ll look into these.

White noise is out, it’s more irritating to me than soothing. So called brown noise seems better.

I have had bouts of insomnia usually waking up around 3 am and it is a struggle. Good luck and let us know what works.

This is really solid advice. I've found that when I follow this regimen to the letter, the 3AM wakeups just don't happen.

Also, make sure you don't have sleep apnea, which is a bloody killer of men. Sleep apnea woke me up for years.

Keeping my room very cool, dark, and running a box fan seems to help a great deal, too.

Not sure what you're doing for work, but if it isn't strenuous then perhaps incorporate some exercise to your daily routine. Not like completing an triathlon, but enough to feel like you worked out a bit. Avoid doing it any closer than a couple hours before bed time though, because that can boost your energy when you don't want that effect.
When your body needs to repair it makes sleep a priority.

I am lucky to get two-three hours of sleep a night. Same story. I lay awake all night until I pass out around 0430-0500. I sleep to 730 after waking up every half hour or so. Then I'm awake and up. I'm diabetic and single so drugs aren't wise. A low blood sugar episode could be the end. A little bit of Nyquil seems to help some. It gets me a couple of hours of uninterrupted sleep bit I still wake up feeling like crap. The only real thing that helps is summertime, all day flyfishing in the sun and exhaustion. I avoid soda and caffeine hasn't really helped. I haven't had a good night sleep since the early 80's.
