I’d be curious to that explanation.

Anyway, I’d lean more to the local. Should be available near you.

Gin is my go too. And Empress 1908 (the purple one)is my favorite.

Basically the cheaper, more poorly produced alcohols have more long chain alcohols and other nasty stuff left after distillation/fermentation, such as methanol, acetone, propanol, butane- and that shit is harder on the body and I think lingers longer.

Ask Google or ChatGPT and you’ll get an in depth explanation.

By the way, if anyone has heard of “torpedo juice”, it was the methanol that caused big health problems and could cause blindness.

Tanqueray 10. A little bit better than regular Tanqueray.

I think Prairie might be what you’re looking for based on its intended use. It’s 80 proof, so you can have a few more than some of the higher proofs. I love Sapphire, but it’s high proof. Prairie is smooth and really good with Fever Tree tonic. I sometimes substitute a slice of cucumber for a slice of lime. Kind of mellows it out.

Another vote for Tanqueray 10. Really like it with Fever-Tree tonic.

I'm a Tanqueray guy. Introduced to it by my old boss maybe 48 years ago.

I'm not a fan of super floral gins and I've never found one I like more.

Not a real Gin connoisseur, but I like Hendricks if I get to choose.

At Heathrow airport I had a Gin & Tonic in the lounge before departing and the locals said it has to be Gordon's to be a proper G&T.

Bombay is fine too, just heard from some that it's kind of like Absolut. Name and bottle more than what's in it.

I'll echo some other folks here, but this is my list. I love a good G&T.

Every day go-to: Bombay Sapphire, and nothing wrong with Tangeray IMO.
If I'm hosting and want something a little nicer: Hendricks
Something new I tried this year which was great: Plymouth Gin
I hear good things about Ford, The Botanist, Drunshambo Gun Powder Irish Gin, but I have no experience with them.

I'm a huge fan of Bluecoat gin.

If that's not available, Bombay Sapphire is my next in order of preference.

Can one actually taste cucumber in Hendricks Gin? I dislike the flavor of raw cucumbers and would hate to buy a bottle only to find it is not something that I would enjoy. I guess I could try to find a mini "airline" bottle to see if it suits me.

I do not like Gin

We were at a pub a couple of weeks ago and they had a bottle of Mr. Pickles Gin, had to try it just because of the name, very smooth and surprisingly good

Also spelled "Jenever" and pronounced yeh-NAY-fer or yeh-NAY-ver — emphasis on middle syllable. (In modern Dutch that last consonant is a soft v/f hybrid.)

Unless you know what you're getting you probably don't want to do that. Jenever has a very distinct taste. I like it. Most Americans probably would not.

Then again: I also enjoy the occasional raw Herring, Dutch-style Big Grin

Never drank gin myself, but my parents liked Bols Genever:

I drink a little gin, typically in a negroni. My wife also likes a Bee's Knees, which is a gin cocktail.

I have been buying the Tanqueray 10 lately. Better than standard Tanq and I like the bottle, which looks nice out on the counter or bar cart.

I was just over at Walmart picking up some Hendrick's, which I prefer, and they had Monkey 47. Never tried it, maybe next time.
