I can have a physical property address without having a mailbox on the property, can I not? The location and address of my property does not change in the county auditor's office if my mailbox is removed and I have my mail forwarded to a PO box instead.

I once delivered a package to an address that didn't receive mail delivery. After carefully navigating the surging horde of dogs that surrounded the vehicle, I placed the package on the deck and returned through the canine tide to my vehicle. As I got in, I noticed someone in the house standing at the window, just watching. As I carefully navigated my way back through the waning horde of dogs, I swore I would never deliver to that house again. And to the people who say they or someone they know has a P.O. Box but no mail service...uh, how do you think your mail gets to the P.O. Box? Hmmmm. A flip down door and a flip up red flag on the recycle bin. Postman gets to deliver it, recycle guy gets to pick it up, and I never have to touch it. I'm thinking win, win, win. Take that Covey! Alternatively, thinking outside the mailbox as it were, can I have my mail forwarded directly to Waste Management?

Yes, I've had customers, who had asked me to just put their mail in their garbage can, they sort out bills and anything else of importance. I have customers who don't have mailboxes, I just put it behind their front door. If I don't have to, I'm not taking anything back to the office. Only time I do, is if a signature is required, or a dog issue. Although if you don't have a mailbox or I don't know you are the occupant, I will leave a notice if it's for a package. Pretty common for identity thieves to send packages to vacant houses. The PO does not "own" your mailbox, but no one else is allowed to use it for your protection. Somebody steals something out of your mailbox, no matter how small, the offense is a little more serious than just a minor offense. I highly advise not putting anything in your mailbox, other than outgoing mail. I've had quite a few customers ask me if I picked up an envelope out of their mailbox the previous day. Then they inform me that was cash for their landscapers, window washers, etc. I once found $2000 from a drug dealer. I called the Postal Inspectors to come get it. Guy waited a month to call it in, said he should have about $1200. He was a little off... ----------------- I apologize now...
