So, the children were eating the whole RDS? That's great appetite. Q

Cool. Because that's exactly what every gun owner wants... A big warning billboard on the side. (Looking at you Beretta/S&W.) Besides, if you're leaving your rifle laying around where your toddler can access it, I don't think them removing the optic's battery cap and eating the battery is the top concern there.

Does A1 go with the battery? BBQ sauce? I just want to know before consumption... ___________________ "He who is without oil, shall throw the first rod" Compressions 9.5:1

Just provide a magnet with it and if child ingests battery with it you can play a new game "Guide the treasure to the exit."

I'd recommend honey -- those batteries are coated in a "bitterant" lately. God bless America.

Which one is better? The push down and turn? or the squeeze the side and turn? Q

Push down and turn is easier for me. I really hate having to squeeze the sides of that damn Listerine bottle. I believe Sig Sauer knew about kids eating red dot sight batteries for years and covered it up. So we're worried about small children eating the batteries out of the optic, but not about the fact that they're playing with a rifle in the first place??? This is the dumbest recall ever. Also, as someone who has had to change a bunch of Romeo 5 batteries, I can tell you no child small enough to be eating batteries is going to get that cap off if it's properly torqued. The worst part about this is my buddy with the local SO was told that he needed to send in a photo of the serial number for each affected optic to get the recall parts. Seems simple, but they put the serial number under the optic so it's covered by the mount. To view it, you need to remove the mount from the rifle and then unscrew the optic from the mount. Which then means you have to re-loctite, re-torque, and re-zero every optic. Brilliant plan.

Do the next right thing |
Maybe I'm crazy, but it seems to me that if you're old enough to read the warning to not eat the battery, you're old enough to just...not eat the battery.

This. Every RDS that I’ve seen with a button battery in a similar mount lacks any sort of warning on the cap.

I do everything I can to find and buy batteries without that coating since it causes all sorts of issues with the remotes and devices they power. I had many issues with a few Apple Air Tags and could not figure them out. It turns out the connections are weak due to the coating. Trying to remove the coating with an alcohol pad or pencil eraser might work, but even Apple tells you to try to buy batteries without the coating. I have had the same issue with keyfobs, my Garmin HRM, and electronic dial calibers.
