“Apple Pay” Pros and Cons… Login/Join
Stop Talking, Start Doing

I’m not sure there are any cons with the actual payment process — it’s excellent.

The retailers / vendors that accept Apple Pay is vast and continues to grow — but perhaps one con would be that not everyone accepts it yet.

Unfortunately, most banks and other businesses with an online presence seem to have abandoned development on their websites in favor of their individual "apps." There are just some things you can't do on the website that are enabled in the app, and the signon/verification process is much more cumbersome.

It looks like as long as it has your Apple Wallet loaded, you can use your Apple Watch even if you left your iPhone at home.

That depends on the website. Some sites do let you select Apple Pay, the same way you can select PayPal as an alternate form of payment.

Actually I was replying to DanH, and I probably should have quoted him. I was referring to websites selling firearms and ammo.

The Apple credit card is pretty good too. Makes it very easy to see balances, transactions, payment due dates, how much to pay to avoid interest, etc. And it reminds you when things are due. Very simple and easy to use.

Yeah, for me that's not a "con."

I now use my "phone" for so many things, every day, that I'd almost feel like I'd lost, if not a limb, at least a digit, were I deprived of it.

I know some people are gonna go "Seriously, dude?" and , but I literally use my iPhone for multiple things every day.

The latest dependency: I can control my new hearing aids with both my iPhone and Apple Watch. It's not strictly necessary, but it's damn handy.

Another pro of using Apple Pay is that you get a phone notification every time any of the linked cards in the wallet is used, so if it’s something that you didn’t charge, you’ll know almost immediately.

My credit card does the instant notification as well.

All of my credit cards do it. I usually get the notification before the machine says to remove my card.

I’m an Apple Pay evangelist. A lot of what I tell people is already mentioned above. The Apple Card is a Goldman-Sachs MasterCard. If you have any problems or questions about the card’s use, they are easy to contact by texting or phone. No calling around forever trying to get a human to answer questions.

Use the card, get instant 1% cash back. Use your phone, get 2% . Purchase with your phone at Apple Stores, AppleTV movies, select Apple stores like Walgreens, you get 3% instant cash back. Your rewards go instantly or in about a day to your cloud Apple Cash Card. You can spend the money from it or transfer it instantly to your bank.

The Apple Card has no annual fee so rewards and other perks associated with fee cards just aren’t there so that is a con. Still, I use my Apple Card/Apple Pay as a debit card, and since I pay balance monthly, I never pay interest.

If you want to send money to someone in the Apple universe, you just text them the amount. It comes from your cloud-based Apple Cash card you transfer money to from your bank or use rewards money. It is so simple.

Easy to set all this up. You just go to the Wallet app and sign up. In minutes, you get a line of credit and the option for the physical Apple Card, which is made of titanium, sent to you free. The card only has your name on it so you don’t feel badly handing it over to a merchant. Right when you are charged, it instantly pops up on your phone with map of transaction.

Again, the card number isn’t the real card number when you purchase items, but it is almost no different. If it gets compromised, you don’t have to wait for a new card -you just click for a new number in the app.

Apple Pay has saved me when I forgot my wallet. I ordered a Subway sandwich, and when I went to pay, no wall. Thankfully, the accept Apple Pay.

I’ve been using it for a couple of years on my iWatch.

The only issue is that occasionally it doesn’t connect. But normally, just two clicks on the watch held by the card reader and it’s done.

Never had any questionable charges or problems.

Apple will send you a card if you wish that can be carried in your wallet. It’s made of metal too…

I was really against using it but I might go ahead and give it a try. Why? Well recently my daughter said her debit card wasn't working. She tried it multiple times at a local gas station to make a purchase inside the store.

So she whips out her phone and uses Apple Pay.

There might be a time I reach for my wallet, find its not there but I have my phone handy so....

That's the Apple Card, not Apple Pay.

One doesn't need an Apple Card to use Apple Pay.

Wrong on that. Apple Pay does work on websites. On my end, I pay with Apple and it automatically fills in the shipping/billing/payment in one click and I'm done.

Also, Apple Pay charges merchants far LESS than traditional visa/MC type cards so merchants like it better.

Your card numbers aren’t backed up to the Cloud. They’re only stored on the individual phone. When you get a new phone and restore from a backup, you have to manually put cards back in the wallet on the new phone. You can read more about the security here.

So I'm standing behind Grandma in the grocery store line. She buys $35 worth of stuff. Now, after the clerk tells her "$35 please", she digs through her purse, (big enough to hold a 12 pack) to dig out her wallet. Now she needs to borrow a pen to write a check. With perfect penmanship, she writes and signs the check. Now, before she hands it to the clerk, she must enter it in her check register. (My ice cream is beginning to melt).

Now she can pay and wait for the receipt. Then she stows the wallet in her purse and heads out. (puddles of ice cream now on the floor).

Next comes me. $35, double click bottom button on my watch, hold next to credit card machine and I'm done.

Is Apple Pay the same as the "Wallet" on your iphone?

I use wallet only for tickets and I do have my AmEx card on it. I see a Apple Pay Cash tab that I need to set up which I haven't done.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Kind of. The iPhone's Wallet is the repository for Apple Pay cards, Apple Cash, ...

You only need to do that if you plan to swap cash with others, via Apple Cash, or if you get an Apple Card, for getting your cash back rewards.

I've never needed to swap cash with anybody using Apple Cash and I cancelled my Apple Card, so it moved my Apple Cash balance into our checking account and de-configured it in the Wallet.

thanks for the information; it's changed considerably since I last reviewed it. I've never used Apple Pay etc. My long term banker advises she never has had any issue with it.
