Savor the limelight |
My wife just turned on the TV and NBC national news claimed that 79% of Americans have had a package stolen. I’m just not buying that stat, so what say you? “Across the country, “porch pirates” are stealing people’s packages right from their doorsteps. In the last year, 79% of Americans had a package stolen, a problem most severe in California’s Bay Area. That’s why Campbell, California police, like many departments across the country, are putting GPS tracking devices inside bait packages to track down thieves.“ Link

Several, likely misdeliveries that people kept. I have never had a UPS package misdelivered or stolen. USPS, misdelivery stolen, Amazon misdelivery stolen, Fedex Ground, many misdeliveries found at different neighbors front porch, back of neighbors garage, any where the lazy ass can throw it. I do live in a mixed townhome & single family area. __________________________________________________ If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit! Sigs Owned - A Bunch

Knock on wood, but never a porch pirate victim. We had a renter in our neighborhood whose grandson got caught porch pirating. They moved out. Our UPS guy had someone following him around last Christmas. One of the neighbors called the constable hired out to our neighborhood and they bolted. She never looked at the camera, used latex gloves, had a getaway driver. Detective on the case said its rampant, and not likely to find the pirates. Thankfully Crutchfield (electronics website) shipped a replacement and only asked that I file a Police report. Since then Ive added multiple Ring cameras. ___________ ___________ ___________

We have had things stolen. One was stolen and opened almost right away. When they found out they didn't like what it was, it was littered across the immediate neighborhood. No. Living out here, that shit would get you shot. I’ve accidentally left the garage wide open when I went to Albuquerque once. Got back and everything was right where I left it. ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I don't have the luxury of someone stealing my packages. FedEx won't deliver them to the right house to begin with.

Not off my porch. Closest I've had is a package of coffee that was misdelivered to a totally different house, and when the Post Office contacted them to reclaim it, they stated they never got it.

Not in the past year, sticking strictly to the timeframe of the article. Beyond that; yes, twice from whomever delivered the package leaving it outside and very visible.

My problem is the delivery folks from FedEx, UPS and USPS all put the package on the porch on the day that has lots of wind. The package then takes wing. I once found a package addressed to me in the wooded area behind my house 8 months after it was delivered. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

Once. Several yeas ago, I sold and shipped an AR-15 upper by FedEx to another state. The last tracking info was "On FedEx vehicle for delivery". It never made it to the final destination. Buyer never received it. Assholes at FedEx were absolutely of no help. Q

Gloom, despair and agony on me. |
My in-laws this weekend had a package stolen off front porch. Their Ring camera got real good pictures of him approaching with no package then leaving with one. Guy walking around either a solar salesman or posing as one with a backpack and tablet device. He was following the mailman watching for packages being delivered. Police apprehended him down the road. Believe he was just given a citation and is on probation.

Had one misdelivered several years ago. Several houses down. UPS, I think it was? Neighbor brought it over. Our porch is a hundred feet from the road. A fairly long hike for porch pirates. And there's nearly always somebody home. "America is at that awkward stage.
