Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated ![]() |
Howdy gang. Asking for the wifey here. Does anyone on here have a wifey, girlfriend, family member, or general knowledge of the drug? It is to help prevent osteoporosis, but in general reading she is concerned with the possible side effects. Are there other homeopathic remedies anyone is aware of that may be better? Many thanks for sharing your thoughts and knowledge on this. "Someday I hope to be half the man my bird-dog thinks I am." looking forward to 4 years of TRUMP!

I can ask my mom. She does not take that drug and doesn’t take any drug unless absolutely necessary, but she is very educated in natural alternatives to drugs, which is why she has lived way longer than doctors predicted with her cancer. NRA Benefactor Life Member

https://www.webmd.com/drugs/2/...subcutaneous/details Virtually any drug can be researched at WebMD. I worked at a pharmaceutical production facility before retirement. Whenever a new to the facility drug was coming in, we had to look it over for adverse consequences for employees. Why? Because the health and safety people would look you in the eye and lie. If we saw something concerning, then we reached out to a pharmaceutical production pharmacist for more detailed health & safety info. We did successfully turn away an anagram of thalidomide, as it carried a very high risk of birth defects during pregnancy. The Pharma production plant didn't have the "class" of production module ventilation for that particular drug. But they sure tried to sneak it past the employees, all for the pursuit of the almighty dollar. I did manufacture Risedronate Sodium tablets, an older/earlier drug version which also treated Osteoporosis. And I do mean literally, multiple hundreds of millions of oral doses/tablets. I don't believe I've ever mentioned that previous employment here on this Forum before. NRA Benefactor Life Member NRA Instructor USPSA Chief Range Officer

It works to increase bone density which is better than a fractured hip. Been around awhile. If she takes it be sure her dentist knows. It is not a Bisphosphonate. Should have regular bone density scans to assess progress.

My mom didn’t know much about the drug other than her gut instinct is against it because it is twice a year so if you are a person who has a side effect from the drug, it will be for six months. She has a super healthy friend who was diagnosed with Osteoporosis and this is what she had to say about it: “I was shocked when I got that diagnosis. My doctor sent me to the ’specialist in that field’ and I can’t remember the name but all he wanted to do was give me a shot of Prolia that minute! I said I wanted to thank about this. Prolia is awful. So, yes, even though I eat and exercise and do all the right stuff… I did decide about three years ago to take Fosamax. It is once a week. I take it for a year. Have a bone scan. Then I stop taking it for a year and have a bone scan. Then I start again for a year. Right now I am on an off year and will get a bone scan this year to determine what’s what.” NRA Benefactor Life Member

My wife was offered Prolia as a replacement for Fosamax. After researching, she elected to stick with once a week Fosamax due to comparison of side effects and testimonials from women she trusts who has similar cancer and treatment.
