My wife wants to see Niagara Falls & I thought 2 or 3 days would be enough. Where would the Sig Forum suggest we stay. I have looked at the Embassy Suites, Hilton Fallsview & the Marriott Fallsview. Also what can a 74 year old with a 67 year old wife do for 2 or 3 days? Should I rent a car from the airport to the falls or are the shuttles adequate?

I have visited the falls several times, however, it has been a long time since I was there so I don't know what new attractions there may be. As for the falls, three days seems like too long. You can oooh and aaah just so much. Popping for one of the behind the falls tours is impressive. At 67/74 your health and walking ability may be a consideration. Just my $0.02.

Are you doing the US or Canadian side?

We did the Canadian side in July and the Embassy suites was very nice and a good location. We had 28th floor with a falls view and it was awesome for the fireworks.

Been a long time since we visited the falls. What we discovered, rather quickly, was the the proper place to spend the nights was on the Canadian side. The NY side was essentially a slum.

I'm assuming by the hotels you listed you plan on staying on the Canadian side. I've been up there a few times in the last couple of years. Stayed at different hotels. I wasn't up there to see the falls but enjoyed walking around them each time.

Be prepared to pay for parking everywhere and at the hotel.

With the ages of the people going I would plan on driving from the hotel to the falls. I normally just walk but it can be some steep up/down walk to get to/from the falls.

Lots of people go to casinos. Not my thing but they are there. There is a boat ride and behind the falls tours. I have never done either but they may be what you are looking for. At least the boat ride the behind the falls may be too much for older people although I have no idea.

If you go to into Canada bring your passport if you don't have an enhanced driver's licence.

Been awhile for me as well. Really liked the Whirlpool Jet boat ride. If I remember correctly, it leaves from the Canadian side.

The Maid of the Mist boat ride is also something to remember.

If your physical abilities are still good, the Cave of the Winds takes you down below the American Falls.

Helicopter rides are a great way to get a full overview of the Falls too!

I would recommend the Hampton Inn for accomodations.

Obviously the attraction is the falls, but the Canadian side has casinos if you run out of things to see. The US side may also, but I am not positive.

Ive been there 3 or 4 times. The American side is a god awful dump that looks like Mexico. Spend al your time on the Canadian side.

The made of the mist boat ride is pretty darn impressive for the price and is an ABSOLUTE MUST. Do not miss this boat ride.

On the Canadian side there was Whirlpool Jet boats tour of the canyon, and that was a LOT of fun. Would highly recommend that too.

Cool to se but a crappy tourist trap. Do like Chevy Chase did in the movie "Vacation" where he goes over to look at the Grand Canyon. Stands there a bit looks around shakes his head affirmatively and moves on.

If you don’t mind driving down the road a bit, a visit to Niagra-On-The-Lake is a nice change. Lots of wineries in the immediate area and a little downtown and park to stroll around on.

Once you are there, you can get around on the bus. You can get a bus pass with your ticket package for the attractions. A car would be good to go to restaurants out of the area. I think three days is too long. In the tourist area, the restaurants and shops add on a tourist fee. This is not mandatory to pay and you can ask to have it removed.

We stayed at the Marriott Fallsview and enjoyed our stay and had a great view of the falls.

If you don't plan on walking around NF USA, you won't need 3 days there. Walk along the Canadian side. You can go up and down the river pretty far and get great views of the river itself as well as both falls. Go have lunch at one of the restaurants and you can overlook the horseshoe falls. Very stoic. There's a lot to see of the history of the US side and how they tried to industrialize the falls where the Canadian side tried to preserve it.

If you go to the American side, picnic on Goat island. Not a lot of people go there, or at least didn't when I grew up there. Cave of the winds is right there. After that, it's an easy trip (short drive, long walk) to the Maid of the Mist. They provide raingear but it's not designed to keep you dry! Wink

American side is very touristy, the Canadian side much prettier IMO. DON'T bus from Buffalo/Niagara Airport, it's a longer trip than you'd think.

This may be a silly question.... I do not have a passport. I assume I would need one to go the Canadian side? I too have been thinking about a short trip there. But with the New York side being trash, its making me reconsider.

Need passport or maybe a global entry card.

I know no one has mentioned this yet, but go to, and stay on, the Canadian side.

Niagra falls is an amazing amount of water.

There's one reason it became a vacation and honeymoon spot. After you've watched the water for a bit there's not much else to do but screw (at least not before the casinos came). You could tell family what a wonder the place was and not give away how much time you spent in the sack. Anywhere else people would ask you if you went to this, saw that, blah, blah and pretty soon would figure out that you didn't leave the room. With the falls, not so much.
