Hope not to find out. We'll be taking him to the vet shortly for a general checkup, shots and to be neutered.

Jeez, I hope they don't charge by the pound. Walking away he looks like he's got a pair of giant, fuzzy, Mickey Mouse ears stuck on his ass.

If they do, it's got zip to do with gender. They either do or they don't, and its generally got something to do with how confident they are that your home is unquestionably their turf.

Surreal "the cat choose me story":
After my Mother died, I resisted going to the grave site for a number of reasons. After about 6 months, my wife persuaded me to go to the cemetery. When we arrived at the grave site, a small, grey tiger cat with no tail was sitting on my Mothers grave! It immediately ran up to me and began purring and rubbing my legs. After our visit, we began walking away and the cat returned to my Mothers plot. As we started to get into the car, I looked off toward the grave site and the cat was now running full speed for our car. It jumped inside. A cat (my Mom?) had chosen me. We named it Rokit because it rocketed through our house.
And the most bizarre part of this episode: The cat became the constant companion of my then 3 year old son, who often carried it around like a sack of taters. The cats devotion to my son was amazing.

This 110%.

THE absolutely best dogs and cats we have had, these past 45 years...are exactly the ones like Charley. the ones that seem to CHOOSE us.

He's a keeper!

Try Balinese or Sphynx. The Balinese don't have the usual dual coat, and for some reason this makes them hypoallergenic, more-or-less, YMMV, etc. My girl, Miki Mililani:

The Sphynx is bald:

Both are exceptional, but you have to get them from a breeder, unless there's a breed-specific rescue near you.

I agree.. I have a cat we call Hobo.. He just showed up, and chose us. He lived outside for awhile, then one day just came in and as soon as I was in my chair he jumped up and fell asleep between my feet.

Good on you for being adopted by Charley! I'm sure you will make a fine addition to his family.

LOL this is true!

Yes, truly bad form to reject a feline tennant application. But your fine specimen appears to be good looking, friendly, supremely confident, and a great mouser !

Either someone is trying to tell me something, or my wife spent a buttload of time training a cat to walk up our sidewalk meowing.

Regardless, I can't bring myself to take it to a pound, and my wife is VERY happy.

It's apparently my lot in life to care for rescued animals - worse things could happen I guess. Smile

Definitely. He could have scratched you, and your wife would still want to keep him. You are one lucky man !

I am, indeed.

Going thru the introduction process is "interesting". Dogs on their lead and bring the cat out of his area in a cat carrier. Barking and hissing at first, then the dogs "sit" on command and look at him. After a few minutes, hissing stops and each is quietly watching the other.

I suspect this will be much simpler than handling the bird issue. The cat is REALLY interested in eating the bird.

I dunno, we'll just have to be patient and see...
