Rigby470Which Wicked Edge model should I get?
Looking at getting a Wicked Edge. There are several models to choose from and would like to know which one I should get. This will be something that stays in a work area, not something I will carry around. Thanks!

Mars_AttacksGet the one with the auto lock and marble stand.
I wish I had bought those options.
I have the C-clamp version with a hex wrench lock.
Also make sure you get stones that go up to 1000 grit.

StlheadI like the one that clamps in a vise. And second the 1000 grit, beyond that is cool to get that mirror polish, but could easily be considered gilding the lily, and take for ever.

StlheadI just went to the website and don't see one like I use anymore, Not sure what I would recommend.

Wicked Edge
I have the original WE and have for years.
The equivalent to the PRO Pack 1.
I don't think I would get anything less than this.
Frist time in a while I have looked at their site, a lot of new stuff and now it is getting pretty pricey.
Still happy with the original, not a lot different from the Pro Pack 1 ~ it has a good assortment of stones.
As far as any base ~ you can mount it on anything, mine is on a 2 inch thick piece of scrap wood I cut in a circle about 15 inches in diameter +/-.
It seems to work fine in it.
YMMV

The 130 looks fantastic. It has the auto clamp.
Order the 800/1000 grit stones.
The marble stand is an accessory.

I looked at the 130 and it appears that if you need to sharpen anything thicker than 3/16" width blade you need an addition accessory?

Mars_AttacksThe hex clamp opens really wide.
However, I have never seen a 3/16" blade on a knife.

Mars...In looking at the web site, the 130 with the 800/1000 stones and marble base is $780. They offer a Gen 3 PRO version that comes with the 800/1000 stones and the upgraded angle adjuster for $899. Is spending the additional $$$ worth the upgrades?

offgridSuggest to look at the TSProf K03 sharpeners. Used both sharpeners, TSProf better design!

I have a couple of knives that are 1/4" blades.

Functionally - YES
But you are paying a LOT for them.
It needs a solid foundation but you don't have to get their high end base unless you want to.
The little digital angle measuring thingy you can get from Harbor Freight for less than $30 (it is what I did).
Any additional grinding stones past the blue/purple 800/1000 {I think} might not be needed.
I got some of the ceramic and leather strops for it way back but rarely use them.
YMMV on that.
Any accessory case is nice but there are always alternatives for something like that.

Nickelsig229I owned the wicked edge with all the upgrades which Cost me close to $1k. It was good, but far from great. Of the flaws, my biggest complaint is the correct location of clamp so you don't thin the tip which is unavoidable by the design.
I sold it here on this forum.
I purchased the TSPRO sharpener from Russia with every option and some extras for about $1.1k. I have zero remorse and wince when I read threads about people buying other expensive systems.
It beats out spyderco, lansky, wicked edge, those knock offs for 35 bucks (those are good believe it or not) and hand stones but you pay the price with the high dollar amount. It depends on how important that perfect edge is to you.
It is a far superior product. I have no relation to them or receive no money or freebies. They don't even know who I am but I always recommend them.
The best part is aluminum or glass blanks with sand paper into the 60,000 grit plus means you can literally make a mirror of your safe queens with ease and no expensive stones and hones or strops necessary.
If you have the money, if your tired of trying different systems, then I would go with this.
You owe it to yourself to at least research it.

motoboyAfter spending money on various other sharpeners I finally bit the bullet and purchased a Wicked Edge We130 system. My only regret is not just spending the money on it first !
I did not get the base but instead purchased a butchers block from Home Depot. Cut and glued it in half that makes for a stable base that I can still move it around.
I have also bought the 800/100 and 1200/1600 stone ceramic units.
I keep index cards with all the info for angles for both my knives and those of friends. I really enjoy this little machine and so far I have got awesome and consistent results with it.

SigJacketI have the Wicked Edge GO. Does me fine, though the 800/1000 grit stones are useful editions.
It stays clamped to an old coffee table in the basement. Watch some tv, sharpen a blade.

Same setup as I have. I first bought the kit, then added the 800/1000 stones.
Just touched up my favorite kitchen knife. Took a couple of minutes total and no fuss.
Yes, you can go all out but my pocket knife and the kitchen one do most of my cutting.

syboMarzy has some good info.
I've been using one for years. The Granite base is a must (for me)
I find if you take a thin strip of leather and use it as a spacer in the vice(clamp) it holds MUCH better and no marring of the spine. I dont usually go upward of 1500, as a polished edge is GREAT for reading news print, for ALOT of uses, i like a little bite!! Its a good unit.

HA! I thought I was the one who thought of this first! LOL Great minds think alike!
I glued a bit of leather on the inside of both jaws. Makes for a super secure grip with no scratching.
