I know there is not probably not many, but this guy a 2A, Conservative, Trump supporting Christian rapper. Not bad for making the songs in his bedroom with zero budget.

My kids went through a rap stage in high school. I felt like I was bleeding from the ears. I commend his eschewing the typical foul mouth, hate, and misogyny that usually accompanies this genre but it still sounds like two cats f*#@ing to me.

I’m not a big fan of hip hop and rap. I do respect some of the talent that is out there. I will also say I like some of the older rap, Dre, Snoop, NWA, Eminem, DJ Quick, 2nd II None, AMG, etc.

I do appreciate the messages he is sending. It sure beats the hell out of what I hear the kids at work listening to (and ask for a music change). He reminds me a little bit if Drake, and his vocals sound a lot like someone I hear at work from time to time, who’s name I don’t know.

Thanks for sharing. I think I’ll stick to Tool, Disturbed, Lacuna Coil, Perfect Circle, Korn, Pantera, White/Rob Zombie, Linkin Park, etc. If it’s a place where people will complain about heavy music, I’ll be happy to slap on some “techno” or EDM (electronic dance music). Link for those that are curious.

I agree with your first statement, and agree there is a ton of talent in the early stuff,

however the only rap I can stand is the Beastie Boys,

my wife gives me that look and shakes her head when I put on some techno or EDM (big fan of Goldfrapp) and tells me she cannot believe I like it, since my go to music style is 70's/80's Punk/New Wave

I don’t like rap as a genre. Don’t listen to it. I don’t think I can name any real artist or song, especially current.

But the exception to rule: coolio and gangsta paradise.

It’s interesting to see an artist in the genre that runs relatively counter culture. But still can’t listen. It’s just noise to me. Can’t even tolerate as bgm.

It comes and goes for me.

There certainly is a talent to spitting rhymes and free flowing. Just try your hand or rather your mind and you'll find out. It's clear your mind has to run faster than your mouth and there has to be a lag between the thoughts and the words otherwise you'd soon be sputtering instead of spitting.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Love to run to it. And lift. But Rap/Hip Hop is a wide wide range of material. And I'm very particular.

Sir-Mix-a-lot, etc. stuff before it became a race to the bottom to replace any attempt at talent with depravity.

Wu Tang Clan’s CREAM can be useful, for getting young minds to think properly about business.

Some of the Modern Christian hip hop is pretty good. I’d rather listen to it than most other Christian music. (Billy Joe Shaver and Ralph Stanley did great jobs on Christian music. )

Imagine if you were kidnapped by an Asian gang and all the while they held you during your captivity, they played authentic Asian music. Most likely, for the rest of your life, you would never ever again be able to hear Asian music without recalling those horrific days of your captivity.

When I first moved to California, I came from all-White communities. I was thoroughly unequipped to deal with the hateful, violent culture in which I was suddenly immersed. On the very first day, I was attacked twice - two separate incidences - solely because of my skin color. It took no time at all to learn of the expression, "Watch Your Six!" and implement that psychology into my existence.

Whenever I hear (c)Rap, I am taken back to those times.

I found what you said riveting.

The closest I come is Linkin Park’s album Reanimation that is a collaboration with various less mainstream rappers and the music from Hybrid Theory.

I listen to a little bit and have heard that fellas stuff. His voice is just a little off for me to enjoy.

NF on the other hand is probably one of the best writers and rappers around.

No cursing, lyrics have actual meaning, and you can understand every word he says.

Agreed. This is the only style of rap that I can say that I like and listen to repeatedly, but it's a pretty small niche of the overall rap market.

Clean, clear, technically complex rapping with a solid message.

No mumbling, constantly getting drunk/high, flashing money, gang banging, dope dealing, degrading women, significant cursing (although I don't necessarily have a problem with foul language in music in moderation), etc.

I can also appreciate some of the stuff from technically complex rappers like Eminem and Logic from a "skilled wordsmith" standpoint.

People tend to pidgeonhole rap as "ganster rap" and not even give it a second look, and while that's certainly a large portion of the rap world, it's not 100% of it.

There's lots of subgenres and nuances. Just like not all rock music is heavy metal, and not all heavy metal is death metal. So just because you don't like death metal doesn't mean you won't like some heavy metal music or some rock music.
