This audio clip is from the last part of Chappelle's latest comedy show, The Closer.

Most comedians couldn't even dream of doing what you're about to hear. The audience wouldn't sit still for it, but Chappelle has gained the trust of his audiences and though you can't see the crowd, you will know by the end of this bit that Chappelle had them eating out of the palm of his hand.

The story he tells is funny and tragic at the same time, and if there was a University of Comedy, Chappelle would be a tenured professor with students competing for a seat in his class.

These are complex times and Chappelle is a complex comedian, and "Daphne" transcends the boundary between comedy and straight commentary. I don't think this is overstating it. Judge for yourself.

Thanks for posting this Para. Dave speaks so much truth, I am holding on to hope that the brain-wizards at NetFix do not ultimately give in to the nonsense demands of a few.

I will admit I haven't watched the entire special ~ is this part the entire reason that all of the commotion is about?
Or are there other jokes, segments that they are so offended by?

No he does his usual trans jokes and how they being too sensitive if they can't take jokes like everyone else does. He stands up for science and reality that sex/gender are biological and states the fact that every human being on earth was born to a biological woman.

Apparently, stating obvious reality is "hate".

The Daphne bit is a rebuttal, that he does not hate trans people personally, and that the actual human being in question is more important than any label or identity.

My impression of Chappelle's position on transgenderism and the Daphne story: he cares for someone with gender dysphoria as he would any other friend who has a medical condition. We (as in fkd up society as a whole) are doing these people no good by not acknowledging their mental condition and instead encouraging their confused idea of what they are. I found Chappelle to be very sympathetic and probably disgusted that people can't separate the humor from the humanity. Daphne defended Chappelle as a comedian and I feel sorry that with her condition and the backlash she received that she felt so helpless and took her life.

Any supposed conservative-leaning interpretations of his opinions needs to be balanced with the reality that he is very much a Muslim and a voting Liberal, and (for example) despite not being in favor of abortion he's not against it either and thinks folks with a dick need to shut the fuck up about the topic...

Attempts to shoehorn him into some other kooky movement, anti trans or otherwise, is flat out wrong.

He's not your anti trans hero... or pro-biology, or whatever label you prefer. Not even close.

By omitting his complete statement on the matter, you've effectively changed his position.

Then, you know he said that if women have the right to abort a child, men have the right to abandon it, and by that he meant that men should not be liable financially for the abortion or any associated costs, and that, by itself, is enough to drive the pro-murder crowd into fits. So, in effect, men do have a say on the matter.

Man, goddammit (frustration, not anger).

You've just lost me entirely taking that pro-murder stuff. There's just, yeah, no reconciliation of points of view to happen here. I couldn't be more opposed to this position and characterization if I tried. I remain vehemently, unwaveringly, adamantly, decades long opposed and this will never change. And, frankly, it's ratcheting up every day, especially after insane things like the Texas law and kooks like Amy Comey Barrett.

That aside, I don't even disagree with that point he made re paying nor your assertion and didn't omit it on purpose nor intend mine to be an exhaustive list of his position, I was speaking off the cuff and skipped it. My mistake, thanks for adding it to the rest. No shade...

But I'm out, on this topic, anyway.

This message here is as polite as I can muster on that stuff, and I rather like it here, overall...

I dunno what's going on with your late in life changes which include this topic, nor is it my place to judge. I just know it's coming up more, and differently, and in our particular case is as corrosive of a combo as it gets when the topic is abortion.

I "hate you all" (giant air quotes, no real hate) when this topic comes up. I'm already holding back a ton. I'd underground railroad pregnant women myself if I must, you understand. I won't tolerate one inch of it. This runs maro level deep, so to speak. And by choice.

Anyway, I'm sorry for the tangent. I'll step away from this thread and try to avoid you on the topic. Insulting you is not my goal and this is as good as I can do.

Later / cheers / etc.

You have your position on the matter and I have mine. You have been allowed to speak your mind on this and you said some harsh things when doing so and no one- including me- attempted to run you off because of what you said. If you want to become angry because I choose to refer to what you call "pro-choice" "pro-murder" (which Chappelle has referred to as "anti-consequences") then you'll just have to get angry. I recall I was rather kind to you last time this subject came up, when you called us, in effect, a bunch of ignorant redneck assholes.

And suggesting that my stance on this topic comes up more because of some "change" in my life is flat-out wrong. What you fail to realize is that for years I refrained from taking any public stance on the subject. The reason I chose to speak up is the idiots who decry a Texas law which states that you are not allowed to kill a living human being with a heartbeat. Pure Goddamned selfishness, and yes, I'll say it again- abortion is murder. Don't go trying to say that just because I finally chose to speak up, that must be some personal problem of mine, or I've had some "change" in my life. That's horse shit. I've just finally had enough of the selfishness of those who think murder is OK because they don't know how to practice birth control. And you're one to talk about bristling over this subject.

Just be cool and accept the fact that I have the right to speak my mind on this matter and that you have been allowed to do the same, and no one has fucked with you over your opinion. The sun will never set on the day that I have to pull any punches in this forum, but you have not been mistreated; quite the opposite, actually.

I just listened to both clips and Dave is a funny man. And he’s way of telling the facts of the whole thing is funny too.
Love it.

I watched both specials, Sticks and Stones was better, and I think Dave Chappelle is in the argument for GOAT. He is a master at his craft and I find him very funny. Remember, these are jokes.

I enjoy Dave Chapelle. First off he’s genuinely funny. But more importantly when he states his opinion I know it’s actually his opinion, despite how unpopular it may be. Sometimes his opinion is unpopular with me, but I appreciate his honesty and always have.
