I'm so sick of Jerry B saying that they are the world's fifth largest economy. No they are part of the world's largest economy. That economy (country) is bound by a simple but magnificent document, The United States of America's Constitution. Those simple pieces of paper lay out how this great country is to be run, it spells out what powers the federal government has (Article 1, Section 8 ) and leaves the rest to the states (Tenth Amendment). It's right there for all to see, and for this asshole and the other assholes in Sacramento to even pull this shit and have the people's support drives me up the wall.

Sorry Synth and any other CA members, but I hate your state and hope that the succession push moves forward. Let any contiguous portion of the state that vote to, split off and for new country. We can built a border wall across Mexico and New California and watch it turn into Venezuela.

Vast portions of California is American in name only, but not in their hearts. I say fuck them let them leave. Let the remainder of the state stay and prosper.

If you think of politics and elections as a pendulum, with swings from one extreme to another but over a much longer period of time, I think California's has gotten stuck, for example, the left-wing Jerry Brown retreaded as governor and the left-of-Lenin Kamala Harris sent to the Senate. Their primary election system, with the two top vote-getters going to the general, virtually guarantees that no Republican will ever go to the Senate from CA. You saw this recently when Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez, another Democrat, for that office. A Republican didn't even run!

Ozark, I know a lot of people here never thought Trump would win. California has changed for the worse but I still believe over time it is possible for it to unfuck itself. Maybe the millions of good people there will find a way for their voice to be heard and for their vote to actually matter.

Split up the state and I believe exactly that can happen. Anything short of that outcome and California is completely FUBAR.

They're not. At least not those in power. This is a long game they play, and not enough eggs have been broken to make their omelet.

The government will take over your business, put many extra crony employees on the payroll who not only aren't productive, but put a drain on the business in a number of ways beyond the obvious...

The actual owner will either be booted out of the business, or extorted in some other way. Like he can stay on, at a much reduced profit, (for as long as diminishing profits are made) ordered about by a government lackey while he watches as his beloved business is slowly ruined...or quickly depending...
