I actually get a kick out of those commercials too, and laugh. Of course, my parents weren’t even that far along as the people in the commercials, with all due respect to them. No cell phones, barely had an answering machine, and no computers, etc. Couldn’t get them to update themselves. But, it worked for them.

An older one was at a Home Depot type store and one of the guys/students wants to help a stranger.

“Did he ask for you help?”

Guilty, I do that all the time.

Helping strangers at Lowes and Home Depot - yup, that’s me.

I also make small talk with strangers while standing in lines.

Thinking about it, doesn’t society lose something when we stop making these small conversations? Without these light hearted links all we can do is HOPE the stranger is normal, that they don’t want to rob me, beat me, murder me?

The media would have us believe the unknown people around us are all out to get us.

Hey hey.... some of these posts aren't in line, this isn't a playground here, lets tighten it up.

As long as we're talking about posts, lets make sure they are all good and secure now.

Oh and Para... I see ya over there. Just go ahead and call if you need to borrow anything.

Love those commercials. Liberty mutual commercials are awful. My wish is for Limu Emu and Doug to explode.

Dr. Rick is pretty good. But my current favorite is the Twix commercial with the twin dudes and the bears.

The best part of this commercial was left out so far in this thread. Its the part where the guy with blue hair walks by and Dr. Rick is telling them "we all see it, we all see it..... " and the guy just cant hold it in finally and blurts "he has blue hair!"

My wife and I do that routinely now. Because of the commercial, of course.

Was thinking of this thread yesterday.

Went to change the oil on my truck and put on my (new to me Christmas gifted) coveralls. I used to mock my father for keeping a pair around and wearing them when working on anything he might get dirty from. Now I keep an old pair of shoes and my coveralls handy at all times.

I am assimilating....

My main objection to digital maps is the scale. On a paper map, I can see the surrounding area and get oriented. Oh a phone screen, I'm not sure where the hell I am and scroll all over looking for an intersection or land mark I recognize, usually completely losing the location I was originally looking for.

I sort of split the difference: I look it up on Google Maps, scroll to the scale I want and print it out for the trip.

I don't really understand them. My parents weren't like that and I don't relate. Since I live alone, my opportunities to emulate them are low.

Same here . My Dad was in sales for many years so he never met a stranger . The only person that I ever heard say a bad word about him was my Mom . I just considered the source ..
