I recently had my boat trailer bearings replaced and packed. The shop gave me a pint tub of the grease they used. I would like to use the same grease and pump a couple pumps of grease in the bearing buddies after I use.
What are my options for getting this grease into a gun so I can pump it in.

I once used my wife's pastry bag. It worked very well, and the couch was pretty comfortable for the couple of nights I had to sleep there.

After that, I just cut the corner on a gallon freezer bag. Worked just as good without the drama.

I worked in a auto shop back in the 70s, the owner was too tight to buy grease cartridges he just bought it in bulk so I had to do it the hard way by packing the grease gun with a putty knife and poking it with a screwdriver to get the air out. I am sure there must be an easier way.

What is the grease number or type? Just get a tube for the grease gun and save the tub for packing the bearings.

Agree, buy the same grease in cartridges. After the recent repacking, you need to roll the trailer half a mile or so, and pump more grease in. Do this again after trailering a few miles.

After a repack there is lots of air inside the hub. Need to work that out so there is no place for water to accumulate.

I’ve had that tool for 30+ years. I’d buy it again.

The easy answer for you is most if not nearly all grease guns will let you load with bulk grease. The exact method varies by gun, but they are so cheap that if yours doesn't just get one that can.
If the shop who did your bearings was competent all this air in the bearings, roll, regrease is totally unnecessary. And adding too much grease is potentially a problem so make sure you remove the old grease as it comes back around the grease fitting. And IMO the idea that you have to use the same grease is also not necessary and any high quality synthetic #2 grease from a name brand will be fine, as intermixing is one of the things that these greases have to do.

Just tried to grease the fittings on my trailer and couldn’t get the damn gun on the nipples. I like to think I’m a pretty smart monkey, but this task befuddled me. The ones I did get the gun on, the grease smushed out the side. Don’t think I get any in the fitting.

Maybe I need to replace all the nipples with new to help get the grease in….

^^^^ Take the grease fitting out, clean the hard dry grease from the inside, clean the outside with steel wool or a scotchbrite pad, make sure the little ball in the center is free and moves easily, and you should be fine

I've never had any high quality grease guns, none of them ever worked perfectly for me, good bad or ugly. I think grease gun knowledge and skills are protected by zen level kung fu masters. Good luck is all I can say when greasing stuff. I do have a hand bearing packer device, works pretty good, after having done that by hand previously. The packer device works nicely, but it's still work without special machines to do that type of work.

YES you can rescue them. But it seems completely silly to me. They are like $.50 each and half that if you buy a box. Its simply not worth any effort. And you should have a spare or two in any case.

I don't get this in any way. A high quality Lincoln industrial quality manual grease gun that will work for any application is between $25-45 depending on exactly what you want. There is no reason you can't grease. Now I myself have to do hundreds of fitting on equipment so I've upgraded to battery powered but that's mere convience not necessitty, I could do it all with a manual lincoln.
