I have reached the stage in life where my eyes need some help. Iron sights just won't cut it anymore. I've outfitted most of my handguns with Holosun green dots and now it's time to move on to the few rifles I have.

I purchased a Sig Tango MSR LVPO 1-6 for a ridiculous deal of $229 on Father's Day and also a Primary Arms SLX 3x Microprism green illuminated ACSS version for another great deal of $268 - $335 minus a $67 Father's Day cash back bucks.

The PA SLX 3x is a micro and the glass is very clear, it feels rock solid in terms of quality and the included variety of mounts really push this into the great deal area. I love green dots vs the red. The diopter options are very helpful too. I think this one will go on my Sig 556. It's the pistol version so it isn't something I'll be trying to reach 500-600 yrds with.

The Sig Tango MSR LPVO 1-6/24mm w/the aplha mount is in another class in comparison. The scope has the same tube as the high end military version, the mount is as awesome as the scope and the glass is really better than I expected for a scope in this price range. This is easily the best scope I have touched in the price point, I wish it were green also, but the red is functional in full daylight and the weight is just right. This will be going on my Steyr AUG.

Anyone looking to buy a new scope should really check these 2 out. I am VERY pleased with these purchases. I will get them to my range this weekend and get them sighted and get the full understanding of each.

I picked up an MSR about a year ago. I think it’s a lot of glass for the money and agree with you on basically all points, but I do wish the illumination was a bit brighter. I had it out on my Bren 2 the other day and was ringing steels at 200 and 300 yards with relative ease, but could only see the difference in the reticle on the last two settings. It was weak enough that I just turned it off. It’s more the older style of “use this when it’s getting darker out” vs the way I’d use a red dot. Then again, it’s the Sonoran desert and it was 104 degrees in the shade that day, so my version of “daylight bright” might be a little different from a lot of other folk’s criteria.

No, that's been my experience with illuminated LPVOs as well. The illumination generally isn't bright enought to be useful in full light.

However, Primary Arms has some LPVOs with their new ACSS Nova Fiber Wire reticle that are advertised as "red dot bright", and I can confirm that this is accurate. Very bright - too bright at higher settings - even in direct sunlight, and usable like an Aimpoint reticle. That may be more what you're looking for.

They have this Nova reticle on a lower end (but still good) SLX model at ~$300 and a higher end PLX model at ~$1300:

I'm hoping my thinking is correct. I bought the 3x thinking that 5x or more would get too "fuzzy" at ranges above 300yds to be useful so why bother. I can't justify spending the $1300-$2000 it requires to get one with that level of quality glass. I am far from a pro and my needs are actually under 150yrds and mostly in the 50yrd area.

I'm impressed with the quality and feel or both of them, but the real test will happen this weekend. I'll zero both at 100yrds but test both at 200 and 300.
