After many reviews, I went with the Lavatools Javelin PRO. It has just about everything the Thermapen has but not as much water resistance. And at half the cost, it’s not like I would leave it outside in the elements.

Thermopop is nearly as good, and a no-brainer on my budget. Whichever you choose, a GOOD digital food therm is an absolute necessity in the kitchen!

My younger son is negligent about everything. Despite that gave him a Thermapen Mk IV as he loves to grill.
Found it outside after 1.1 inches of rain in 24 hours. Works fine.
Also use Thermopops--I use one to check temp of my baaath watah.

Love my Thermopop, much cheaper, just as accurate but a tiny bit slower to read the temp than the Thermopen.

Probably, I haven’t had mine for very long, but I got a Classic for $59 on sale. I know the Brand X digital thermometer I had been using for several years, was much too slow—particularly when grilling in cold weather.

I bought a Thermoworks Smoke a year or so ago, based on recommendations here in the Forum. I waited for a sale to buy this device as well. I think regular price on their stuff is too high, but catch a sale and it just makes sense.

Yup, well worth it. Gave one to a friend and she subsequently purchased one for each of her 3 sons, as Christmas gifts.

I have one, its lasted many years with quite a bit of use, still use it for quick cooking scenarios, the problem with thermometers like this, regardless of brand is you have to open the lid to check temp and that releases heat from the smoker/grill. With smokers that's not ideal.

So for longer cooks I like to use the iGrill bluetooth with 4 probes it monitors the temps of up to 4 things, and the app on your phone keeps you updated of the temps, makes keeping an eye on the food easier and you will see if your cook is stalling or if the grill temp is falling immediately,

JMO it's a good idea to have both if you cook on a grill/smoker quite a bit as I do...

Thermopoppens are worth the money because cooking to temp is always better than cooking to time...

I wrestled with the same question, then bought one just before Thanksgiving. I’m glad I did. It was that or buy another cheaper, less accurate, and more fragile thermometer that I would throw away broken in a year or so. Decided to stop doing that.

I love mine. Had the first one for 3 or 4 years for grilling and smoking. Had to buy one for the camper and in the kitchen.
