My career was in LE and I retired at 53 with 3% of salary for each on my 28 years of service...granted I did work the system to maximize the gross salary it was based on...so 84% of my gross. That was more than my take home at the time since I no longer had to contribute to my pension or Social Security

Then I started collecting SSA at 62. I avoided the "Windfall Exemption" since my department contributed to SSA while I was employed there

By 48, I was closing in on retirement and had found my niche. Plus by then I had enough seniority to have regular shifts, good days off, and any vacation period I wanted
