"Angle grinder meets flesh" A match NOT made in heaven. Glad you're okay!

I work with a guy that was using a grinder/cutoff wheel to remove a brace from a weldment, without the secondary support handle. Wheel didn't shatter, but it bit in, kicked out and caught him in the face. Looked like he got swiped by a wolverine. Boss made it instant company policy that if he so much as saw an unplugged grinder without the second handle, you got written up. _________________________________________ Dei. Familia. Patria. Yeah, I really need a saw for this instead of trying to use a cut off wheel on the grinder.

All other things being equal, a saw blade would probably make a worse injury. As bad as your cut was, a grinding or cutoff wheel, because it cuts by friction, has a little bit of "cauterizing" effect.

That strikes me as exceptionally inexpensive; I would have guessed much higher. But then, knock on wood (while rapping my forehead), I have fortunately managed to avoid having to seek such care. “I can’t give you brains, but I can give you a diploma.” — The Wizard of Oz This life is a drill. Using gloves (or wearing rings) on stationary power equipment, like saws, shapers, jointers, etc., is a no-no, as you discovered. When in doubt, mumble
