Flesh goes away. It was just a deep cut into my left index finger but it wouldn't stop bleeding. A day off due to rain ends up with a trip to Urgent Care for getting the abrasive from the grinding disk cut out and 3 sutures at cost of $180. Luckily, I didn't hit any tendons.

Sorry about your accident. Glad it seems to have worked out OK. Welcome to the "I shouldn't have done that with my power tool" crowd. The stitches don't hurt but that dirty sucker told me the tetanus shot wouldn't get sore. Feels like someone took a hammer to my shoulder.

I feel with you. I absent-mindlessly whacked left index knuckle with spyderco while sharpening last monday. Missed the tendon, but 5 stitches and a tetanus shot. left shoulder still twinges. NRA Life Member - "Fear God and Dreadnaught"

Before I opened the thread I kinda figured the angle grinder won. Glad you still have all 10 digits.

Doubtful... |
I did the same thing to my thumb this summer. Grinder didn't slow down a lick. When the young gal that was stitching me up ask how long it had been since my last tetanus shot, I looked here square in the eyes and told her... it was probably before she was born. 7 stitches and a shot cost $75 This message has been edited. Given the title, I was hesitant to open the thread. I’m glad it wasn’t more serious. I had my tetanus booster last week. I felt it for the next 3 days.

Wow you guys are pretty smart going to urgent care. Just walking in the local ER here starts at about $500. Tom’s gonna have a bitchin scar from that....

I looked up the price of a blade blocker (discharge chute gate for my mower), which is what I'm making. Turns out that with the urgent care and antibiotics I saved $12. That is if I don't try to put holes in any other part of me.

For some reason, power tools always win in the battle against the flesh. I got REALLY LUCKY in '94 with a circular saw. Almost cut off the tips of 3 fingers. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. The last tetanus shot I got made me feel like I had the flu for about 36hrs.. Never had that happen before. "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

Glad it was just a few stitches. Tetanus shots are awful. I swear they give you those so you forget about the pain of the injury that caused you to show up in the first place. The “lol” thread

Grinders are one of the meanest tools a man can tangle with. Take a few minutes, kick back, rest up and plan your next adventure.

OUCH!glad you got away with it with minor injury. Same for me. grinder.left index, 7 stitches and tetanus shot= $95. Cheap lesson actually.

Glad it wasn’t any worse than that! Power tools get a healthy measure of fear and respect from me. I had a drill bit in an industrial press grab a piece of my glove once. Thankfully, I reacted quickly enough to yank my hand out of the glove, because in the next instant, the glove was wrapped around that spinning chuck and all I could think was “you almost became a statistic and an OSHA report.” ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

I attempt to be very circumspect when using an angle grinder, especially with a cut-off wheel, which can disintegrate and embed pieces of itself in you, the wall, or anything else. I also always wear a full face shield over my safety glasses. I've been bit once, just touched it. I happens quickly, and you know what you did, but not how bad until you get a good look. Fingers bleed a lot anyway. Luckily, I didn't need stitches. When in doubt, mumble

This spring I put a cut off wheel through my jeans and into my leg a tad. My exact words were... "Well that was dumb!" _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

Back on May 5th I was using my table saw. As I moved a piece of scrap away from the blade my glove was caught in the teeth of the blade. It ripped through two fingers (index and middle) of my left hand. All I felt was the "wack" and then I said to myself, "wow, that's gona leave a mark." Long story short, index finger is now about 1/2 inch shorter and middle finger has a nasty scar that is still sensitive and painful. The point of this is that I believe that we all have a certain amount of dumb moves that we are protected from in our life. Once you use up all of the "free moves" the stupid starts to hurt. This weekend I put my hand on the muffler of the snow blower as I was getting it ready for winter. Yep, another dumb move. Now my left hand has a nice burn scar on the palm of my hand, has a nice imprint of the muffler. It'll probably be there for a while. At least it doesn't hurt. Now I know that I have to be a little more careful and follow the proper safety protocol. Cheers, Doug in Colorado NRA Endowment Life Member
