It’s “OFFICIAL” now; “science” backs it up!!!!

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/he...says-BMI-racist.html

American Medical Association says BMI is 'racist' because measurement was designed based on white bodies in the 19th century

The major medical group says BMI is too broad to reflect an individual's health

It was is based on non-Hispanic white bodies and doesn't consider other races

That's a sad looking group, but don't count them completely out. Might be a soldier or two in the bunch.

I'm not sure I would call BMI racist, but it is definitely not an accurate measure of ones physical health. According to my height I can't weigh over 204 lbs and not be considered overweight. I am absolutely not overweight.

According to the calculator I'd have to be between 155lbs and 204 to be considered normal weight. If you saw me at 155 you'd think I had a a medical issue or eating disorder.

I got down to 200 through weight loss then put 15lbs of muscle back on working out. That itself shows the index is garbage. Lord forbid you put on healthy muscle, you'll be considered overweight!

I finished basic training last summer, at the age of 35. I wasn’t a super athlete before I went, but I didn’t find basic (or AIT) really physically hard. I made tape at meps, lost 35lb at basic, and got into great shape overall. The body fat calculator and height weight measurements are very dumb. I’m 6’3” max weight can be 217. I happen to have very big legs, so inspite of having a 33” waist, I’m still “overweight” by army standards. The new pt test is much harder than the old one, and my guard unit has people who could max the old one scoring in the low 400s out of 600 on the new one. You can’t roll out of bed and do well on the new one.

It isn’t racist at all, it’s just trash for people with lots of muscle.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone
