Yeah, that's it.

Top Army official blames anti-woke rhetoric of right for severe recruiting crisis

The Army’s top civilian leader pushed back amid Republican criticisms that the military is going too "woke," arguing such critiques are deepening an already troubling recruiting crisis.

"We are a ready Army, not a ‘woke’ Army," Army Secretary Christine Wormuth told reporters last week, according to a report in Task & Purpose. "That’s something, frankly, the chief [Army Chief of Staff Gen. James McConville] and I said throughout posture season in hearings, in meetings with members of Congress."

Wormuth’s comments come as all branches of the military have come under fire for what some critics see as "woke" policies, arguing the services have been prioritizing classes and training on diversity, equity, and inclusion over readiness to fight the nation’s wars.

The comments come as the military contends with its worst recruiting crisis since switching to an all-volunteer model over a half century ago, with all branches coming up short of expectations that have forced them to get creative in finding ways to fill the ranks.

The Army, the country’s largest military branch, has been particularly hard hit by the crisis, coming up 15,000 recruits short of meeting its fiscal year 2022 goals. While leaders such as Wormuth have expressed optimism in recent months that the Army has turned the tide, the branch still expects to fall short of 2023 goals.

During a media roundtable last week, the Army leader pointed toward the "woke" criticism as another hurdle the service is facing.

"I think one of the things that we see that’s contributing to a decline in trust in the military is a concern on both sides of the aisle about politicization of our military leaders," Wormuth said.

"I think the more our military leaders are sort of dragged into spaces that have been politicized like that, I think the more it contributes to this perception that they’re political when they really aren’t," Wormuth added. "So, I hope that we don’t see more of the kind of talk that’s been out in the past few days."

But others, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a top GOP contender in the 2024 presidential primary, believe the opposite is true, arguing the shift toward woke policies is part of what contributed to the ongoing recruiting crisis.

"I think the military that I see is different from the military I served in," DeSantis who served in the Navy’s Judge Advocate General Corps, told Fox News last month. "I see a lot of emphasis now on political ideologies, things like gender pronouns. I see a lot about things like DEI, and I think that that's caused recruiting to plummet."

Wormuth did acknowledge in media appearances last week that there was "no doubt" the perception that the military has gone "woke" was contributing to military recruiting woes, though she argued the problem was being caused by political rhetoric and not any military policies.

"What I am trying to do is talk about now how that drip, drip, drip of criticism about a ‘woke military,’ I do think is having some counterproductive effects on recruiting," Wormuth said.

Oh, I hurt somebody's feelings and now they've requested a "Membership Deletion" form. Hell, I didn't even speak to them in this thread. I addressed someone who agreed with his comments. Perhaps he didn't like being ignored. That wasn't my intention, but...

Let's see- the other day, he posted a death notice, but someone had beaten him to it, so I locked his thread- with a link showing the thread already in existence. Perhaps he misunderstood.

And, a while back, he came into a thread of mine, saying the subject matter didn't matter to him. I told him he was missing my point. He responded, still missing the point. Never asked me just what the Hell my point was. How is this my problem?

I guess all of that adds up to me being a dick.

What you see is what you get, folks. If you want a fading flower admin who pretends how objective he is ("Hey, thanks for your input. I guess I really didn't see it from your perspective. I'll try to do better in the future!" Ha!), or looks like he would lose control of his venue because he's not really in charge, this isn't the forum for you. As best as I can tell, the overwhelming majority of active members are men over the age of 50. I figure most of you understand the responsibility of managing a place like this carries with it a degree of authority, but perhaps I'm mistaken.

For what it's worth, I've actually mellowed a bit from the old days. If you think I'm a rough ol' cob now, you have no idea...

The printer's broken. Just write out your request using green crayon (any shade) on a sheet of white paper and mail it in to the address on the back of the Waiver. Your request will be processed in 6 to 8 weeks.

I recall the rebellion of the denizens of the "island of misfit toys" if I recall correctly into the distant past. The boys said if they didn't get their way they'd leave and the place would collapse.

They left, door locked behind them I think. Place didn't collapse. I was sorry to see one of the guys go but you pick your fights and take your chances.

Doesn't anyone read the waiver anymore?

Hell, I made a copy of the damn thing and also purchased the wallet sized one from the S/F gift shop.

On it the OP-
I've been out of that loop since '95, and it (thankfully) has changed some.
According to the old chart, a few of the Marines I was with were on the "obese" side.
One was 6'5", 6'6" and every bit of 240/250lbs... Of nothing but lean muscle! Bench press a HUMMV for fun, swim a few miles for a warmup, and was doing the 3 mile run just over the 18:00 mark. Pull ups? I watched him crank out 50. Sit ups? Easily do the 80 in just a minute. 2 guys had to hold down his legs.
Yet Uncle Sam, well, just Uncle Sugars Magic Circus said he was "fat".

There were a few others in that category- most not as fast on the runs, but never failed them, strong as an Ox... However, USMC said they were fat. They had to apply for a waiver every year.

My room mate when I was in was the same way. Dude was a beast and breezed through PT tests. But, every time we had a weigh in they made him go to the pork chop platoon despite having five percent body fat.

That’s on par with what I see here, every night at the gym. People less than 1/2 my age, fat, diet of fast food, perfect photograph in the op, perfect. They go to the gym, can’t get off their phones, don’t sweat, don’t work, and just do fuk all except get in the people’s way who are actually in there in attack mode. Bunch of buttercup princesses who need to know where the closest double burger w/fries drive thru is.

Saw the exact same thing in the Army too while I was on AD.

Guys who were absolute solid muscle gym rat types who always maxed the PT test getting harassed for being "fat" because their neck was too big according to some pencil pusher's Army regulation. It's just stupid.

Easy enough to find that with a smart phone. There's an app for that.

Dewey Oxburger : Yeah, yeah I do. Yeah, I do. I went to this doctor. Well, he told me I swallow a lot of aggression... along with a lot of pizzas! Ha Ha Ha! Pizzas! I'm basically a shy person, I'm a shy guy. Uh, he suggested taking one these uh, aggression training courses. You know these aggression training courses like EST, those type of things. Anyway, it cost 400 bucks! 400 bucks to join this thing? Well I didn't have the money and I thought to myself, "Join the army"! It's free. So I figured while I'm here I'll lose a few pounds. And you got what, a 6

Dewey Oxburger : I'm going to walk out of here a Lean, Mean, Fightin' Machine! Ha ha ha ha!

In all seriousness this is a joke. I've met very few people in this age rage that have even the slightest concept of what a full commitment is or even selfless service.

I never served in the military but was a Fire Fighter for 8 years. It wasn't about the pay it was about the job. Always being there, no matter what. Nothing would stop us from being there for each other, and YOU. Even the fire service has been gutted by this politically correct, feel good, don't upset or offend anyone B.S. and it's sad. I wonder how are these new people supposed to survive what we see and do on the street every day if they can't take a few gallons of water over the head as a probie??!
