A DC National Guard F16 went down this morning near Andrews.

Pilot ejected safely and was picked up by a helo. Plane crashed into an wooded area.

My office is only a few miles from Andrews and I heard this just as I was leaving for a deposition on the other side of D.C.

No traffic disturbances (except for the usual), but there was a hell of a lot of helo activity over the district. (Completely unrelated, just unusual.)

I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888

I followed this all day at work (in DC). Pilot ejected safely...but what struck me was that the story is it went down in an unpopulated area (Prince George's County has unpopulated areas, where?). Photos and video showed something different; the aircraft went down in a small strip of woods between two fields. Houses all around those fields. I'd say he threaded a needle. Thumbs up to the pilot for keeping the plane out of homes! Smile

Definitely not news choppers:

1) They were over downtown D.C., nowhere near Clinton.
2) They consisted of a pair of UH-1s flying low in close formation - some sort of .gov-looking paint job; a pair of blackhawks flying low over the river with one carrying something very decidedly torpedo-looking on its left side; and Marine One (or Two) in the general vicinity of the WH, but couldn't tell where it was coming from or going where I was.

Not news, but lots of choppers in DC.

The King is a chopper pilot in his own right, maybe they escorted him in. Smile
