A heartwarming story. Carjacker career / life ended by armed civilian. With apparent back up from 2 other armed civilians. If story is true, what an awesome reaction by the good guys.

Armed Civilians Shoot Would-Be Mass Shooter At Washington Walmart

“There were three civilians going after him (the shooter) to shoot him and two of them had their guns up — and then the third guy shot him through the window of the car,” explains Megan Chadwick to KIRO7 news, as she witnessed a would-be mass shooter taken out by multiple armed citizens at a Walmart just outside of Olympia, WA.

KIRO 7 reports:

An armed civilian took down a shooter after at least two people were shot Sunday night at a Washington state Walmart, police said.

Tumwater police said the civilian, described by officers as a good Samaritan, shot and killed the suspect at the scene.

The shooting happened just after 5:30 p.m. at the Walmart Supercenter in Tumwater, about 65 miles south of Seattle.

“I heard two bangs. It sounded like gunshots to me,” witness Robert Berwick said. “I looked down the aisle and saw a person running.”

That’s when Berwick ran, too. There was chaos in the parking lot, and he said the shooting suspect tried to carjack another man. That’s when the suspect was shot.

“I thanked him for saving my life,” Berwick said of the attempted carjacking victim who shot the suspect. “He didn’t look like he had any regrets. I hope he doesn’t have any.”

Another witness to the shooting, Megan Chadwick, said her husband saw the civilian take down the shooter.

“He said he watched him (the shooter) take his last breath,” Chadwick said. “There were three civilians going after him (the shooter) to shoot him and two of them had their guns up — and then the third guy shot him through the window of the car.”

Chadwick said her husband was armed as well.

She was inside the Walmart during the shooting with her multiple children.

“I looked over and saw hundreds of people running out. … Just a flood of people and everyone was screaming and frantic. … When we got about to the door, I heard someone say, ‘Gun. Shooter.’ And I knew something was serious,” Chadwick said.

The Olympian continues with:

Laura Wohl, spokeswoman for the Tumwater Police Department, said an adult man who had been shot was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was shot while the armed suspect tried to carjack his vehicle, Wohl said.

A person with his own weapon shot the suspect outside Walmart. That man was still on the scene about 7 p.m. and was being interviewed by law enforcement.

The incident began as a report of a drunken driver in the area of Israel Road and Tyee Drive near the Toyota dealership. People reported a driver was driving in the wrong direction in the vicinity. When police arrived, they couldn’t find the vehicle.

They then responded to shots fired in the area of the nearby roundabout, Wohl said. They learned that a man had fired shots trying to carjack two vehicles.

A 16-year-old girl was injured, but not seriously. The suspect then headed to Walmart, Wohl said.

When they arrived at the Walmart, they learned that a man had tried to carjack a car, and shot a man inside the car twice. He then tried to carjack another car. Two citizens in the parking lot drew weapons; at least one of them shot and killed the armed man, she said.

Darren Gossler of Elma was in the store when the shooting started. He tweeted: “I was in the dairy section. Heard about 5 or 6 pops. Ran out a side emergency exit and attempted to run to my car in the parking lot but heard 4 more pops in the lot. Caught a quick glimpse of a male with what appeared to be a handgun. Ducked under some cars and ran to Costco.”

It was buzzing pretty heavy last night on TV and FB.

Excellent story. A lot of people carry here and it’s great to see the fruits.

People outside of the downtown area love guns. For a deep blue state our gun laws are fairly lax. CCW only requires a background check.

My phone was pinging with updates yesterday, a quick check of news and nothing had hit the headlines, a little digging and a small report of the incident. This morning, with more information, this incident is buried with headline news about kids at the border. Where's those outraged kids from that FL high school again? Roll Eyes

Another report. Apparently the cops were chasing the carjacker:

“…Officers noticed a stolen vehicle and said they chased it to the nearby Walmart.

In the parking lot of the Walmart, the carjacker allegedly got out of the first stolen car and tried to steal another vehicle.

The carjacker then shot the driver before he was shot dead by an armed bystander…”

You need a decoder ring to understand the words of those trapped in a blue state sometimes. In this case, s/lax/reasonable/ and you’ll be good to go.

I just got a call from my brother. My niece is an employee at that Wal-Mart (16 yrs old) and ran to the break room when the idiot shot the glass case inside the store. She was very upset, they sent her and a bunch more employees home.

1 in 15 people have a concealed pistol licence out here, all you gotta do is pay the county man $60, and have a clean background.

I’m paraphrasing you from a statement you made here some years ago, but I’ve found it to be true: In Western Washington, you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a dozen gun owners, and half of them will have guns on them when you do, so don’t swing a dead cat in Western Washington.

And how about that...so many armed citizens going after and taking out the bad guy, and somehow there wasn't mass confusion with good guys just blasting away and shooting each other. How is this possible?

It did. That’s why I wrote what I wrote.

I escaped New York, where I couldn’t own a handgun without being licensed, forget about carrying one, and they told me to take my “assault weapons” with me so they could be SAFE. So far, the very other end of the spectrum here. If you want to debate, let’s have another thread. If you want to simply snark, consider your snark as noted and we’ll move along.

At least 4 armed citizens.. a lady was interviewed and said her husband was also armed but did not draw (as they saw the other 3 had drawn and descended on the shooter).

It is sometimes too easy to resort to sarcasm and I was so tempted to offer stinging sarcastic comment aimed at the liberals who disbelieve that anything good can result when legally carried guns are present.

Instead, the seriousness of this event and how, with the circumstances being marginally different, could have turned out badly gave me pause.

I hope accurate details of the actions of the three good guys with guns who quickly stopped a bad guy with a gun will be published. If these early reports are accurate, I would like to be able to provide an example of such a successful outcome to friends and associates who have doubts that civilians are capable of successfully defending themselves and others with a gun. And, without such an event ending in the reckless melee scenario often scripted by gun control advocates.

I am by no means suggesting giddy celebration of the results. My heart goes out to all those affected by such events. My thoughts and prayers are with the young injured girl. My respect to the three gallant individuals who risked their lives to save others. As it appears, these individuals selflessly risked their lives to end a swiftly changing and violent event that could have easily resulted in many more injuries or deaths.

I hope the details of the event and the ultimate outcome are not swept quickly away because it does not fit the gun control agenda. This event sounds worthy of a detailed accounting similar to those offered by Massad Ayoob.
