I was blown away by the picture at COSTCO for an OLED LG Before this I have bought Samsung. They have been great. The OLED picture is unbealeavable.

Fighting the good fight |
Like all TV manufacturers, they have various "tiers". You may have been looking at their lower tier offerings. TCL's lower end 3-series and 4-series are inexpensive and decent, but nothing special. On the other end of the spectrum, their higher end 8-series are really nice but well over $1k. Their mid-tier 5-series and 6-series are the sweet spot of great picture quality at an affordable price.

Jimmy, Common practice of brick n mortar stores is to dial in the display on the big name higher profit models and place the others, like TCL up high or as you've found set up with a mediocre at best picture. The TCL is much better than you've seen. I bought and still have my first TCL some 10 + years ago. In the house currently are 65" 65R615, 49" 49S515, 32" L32HDF11TA models. I've used a TCL on some boat too. I know there are different levels of quality of them and all tv's. The picture wasn't bad by any means, but it just didn't compare to Samsung or LG from what I've seen......it was close...….but for something I'm going to use daily and sometimes for hours a day, I'm willing to spend the extra and get a Samsung. In comparison, the picture on my 10 year old 46" Samsung LED is better than my 2 year old 65" 8 series UHD Samsung......LOL

Great point; one that has seemingly been lost in recent years. Motion blur is more noticeable with larger screen sizes and increasingly the vast majority of TV’s are produced having a true refresh rate of only 60Hz (despite their claims citing larger simulated numbers - see below link). When we bought our last round of LEDs, it was easier to find true 120Hz screens at reasonable prices. But those models have mostly been dropped as the manufacturers have stressed the newer low-priced 65+” screens. I guess many viewers don’t notice nor care about the soap opera effect, which results from the chip’s artificial attempt to reduce blur. Also, the focus on other picture attributes (4K, HDR, etc) seems to have diluted any discussion / concern regarding motion blur. But, that is the main reason I haven’t been willing to buy the 6-series TCL in a 55 or 65 size. I miss the plasmas. https://www.cnet.com/news/ultr...4k-tv-refresh-rates/

Feel free to reference my recent thread on this topic. I'm very happy with my Sony XBR55X900F and highly recommend it. https://sigforum.com/eve/forums...935/m/6250040564/p/1

We just replaced three 10-15 year old LCD and Plasma TVs with Samsung Q70 and Q80 QLED TVs. The picture quality is spectacular. I spent a lot of time reading reviews and looking at TVs in stores. The only TVs I saw that looked as good (slightly better in some ways) were the LG OLED TVs, but I wasn't willing to buy a TV that can burn in.This message has been edited. Since I had had great luck with Toshiba old school CRT TVs for many, many years, when I upgraded to a flat screen TV I went with Toshiba. That was 9 years ago and they have been flawless.

Both the Sony 900 and the Samsung Q70 seem to hit the sweet spot and both have a true 120Hz screen. I may finally replace a plasma with one of those.

Kind of a silly question, but does Costco carry more/different models in store vs what shows on the website? I haven’t been in a Costco for a few years. Renewed my membership for this but wasn’t sure if I’d have more options.

I have been watching this set for about 6 months. It has been running between $1,199 and $1,299 depending on the week. In the new flyer I saw this ===>$999.99 YOUR COST Samsung 65" Class - Q7D Series - 4K UHD QLED LCD TV Item 9657500 beginning 4/13/20. The LG OLED are great but nearly double the price. Thank you Very little |
We have the Samsung 65 and an LG 60, both 4K and bought at Costco. The LG was on sale, and a better deal and it's slated for the garage. Both have very good pictures, the Samsung has more features, and a better picture than the LG, we do notice some of the blurring in motion in some action scenes. Other than that, its good. If I have to replace the main 65 Samsung it would be with a Q Series model, probably bought at Costco.. I've never compared the in store model numbers to the web page, the web page should tell you if the model is available in store or not...

The Q7D is what I’m leaning towards. Unfortunately the TCL QLED 6 series isn’t on the website.

I had a Samsung that crapped out in 4 years. I replaced it with a Vizio which had high reviews. Its sucked, bad. It also began powering off randomly the second week. Returned it for an LG and im very happy. It was last years model and I got it from Best Buy for $450. It was around $750 new.

I don't know what "we" like, but I like our new LG 55UM7300AUE 55" LED LCD TV we bought at Costco a few months back One thing it does better than many others, pointed-out to me by one of Costco's sales peeps at the time, is have much reduced reflected glare than many others. This was important to us because the room in which it's located has a door wall, large windows, and a southern exposure. It also does digital audio pass-through, which has simplified our digital audio connectivity. (HDMI to the TV, optical digital audio to the receiver.) "America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system,,,, but too early to shoot the bastards." -- Claire Wolfe "If we let things terrify us, life will not be worth living." -- Seneca the Younger, Roman Stoic philosopher

I just pulled the trigger on a 65" Samsung Q7D (Q70) from Costco. They went on sale for $999 recently (today I think). I was really checking out the TCL, but I didn't see the newer QLED model on Costco's website. Had they had it, I probably would have gone that route. Can't wait for it to get here. I spent twice that much on my 52" 11 years ago when we built our house.

That's a good move considering how much TV everyone is watching these days because there's nothing better to do. Watch, your existing TV will go tits up the night before the new one arrives...….

Left-Handed, NOT Left-Winged! |
Sony OLED all the way. Same panel as an LG, with much better processing, especially for motion. If you're going to sit in front of the things for hours every day, might as well get a good one...
