ZSMICHAELIt would be interesting to see what a learned individual in film would have to say about this movie. I was fortunate enough to have a course in Screen Arts in college. Saw all the classics, foreign films and the history of film. Joseph Goebbels promoted movies for a variety of interesting reasons. He understood the value of propaganda.

ensigmaticMy wife and I tried watching it after it hit Netflix. About twenty minutes into it, and...
Me: "This is
entirely uninteresting to me. You?"
Wife: "Yeah."
Me: *click*
Maybe we should have stuck with it, but it was looking more like a Hollyweird treatment of education in African tribal culture than an action movie of any kind.

darthfusterIf Black Panther gets the Oscar, Caddyshack should have also.

Zeus007A Movie about black tribes with technology and advance medicine but they kept it for themselves while people of the same race/tribe suffer but all the blame is on white people.

BytesNever met a Blank Panther, ever? I am sure I would fear one and defend myself. Hopefully I would be well prepared.

Well, LOTR, Return of the King WON the Best Picture for 2003 but I get your point.

Caddyshack is deserving of a Oscar independent of how BP does. That film will stand the test of time.

I think that horse left the barn a long time ago.
I've stopped following what movies/musician gets what award, the last 20-25 years have only reinforced my option that they're all giant, self-congratulatory circle-jerks. There's so many 'award shows' it's nauseating...the pandering, peacocking, prancing and soap boxing has turned-off all but the most vain and shallow.

Balzé HalzéWait a minute. Black Panther has been nominated, but Black Dynamite never was? Now that's a bunch of bull right there.

IcabodThink Black Panther is the only movie that’s had a wide viewing.
All other films nominated I know little about. My understanding is that these films are released at the end of the year and to a limited number of theaters. Then the voting members of the academy get to go and see them.

FredwardI found several interesting points in the movie, which, I believe in another context, would be considered racist. The neighboring, allied tribe used a GORILLA as their symbol, and imitated a gorilla bark as their battle cry. The high tech country's primary battle weapon was a glorified spear. One of the main characters abandoned his son for decades, without support, in an urban area. Wakanda refused to share tech with neighboring, impoverished countries.

parabellumIn my opinion, everyone should just ignore the Academy Awards. They're nothing but a political platform these days. There's no point in bothering with them any more.

That’s my belief with the entirety of Hollywood. They fuckin HATE conservative Americans. Why would anyone give them their time or money?

LOTR deservedly so. BP, absolutely not under the SF Best Picture Award. I’m with Para and everyone else who stand against Hollywood and their anti-conservative, push the LGBT and other bullshit philosophies down the throat agendas.

parabellumThis is all quite simple. I haven't seen one single frame of this Black Panther crap and I know only that it's science fiction. That's it. That's all I know.
And yet, I can tell you with the greatest confidence that there's only one reason this film has been nominated, and that's because of the title of the film.
It's really that simple. It's really that obvious. Don't waste youyr time, guys. It's not worth gtting upset about. Let these assholes live in their sick echo chamber.
There's a century worth of films out there. Stop bothering with contemporary Hollywood. They have nothing to offer but ignorant lectures and conceited posturing.

gearhoundsI can honestly say that at no time of my life have I ever watched any kind of silly “awards” show. None of them. Some of the results I hear about are interesting but I’ll never sit through them. A complete waste of time.
