Need to replace my alternator (2005 F-150), whats a good brand?
My previous vehicle (1998 Chevy Silverado 1500 w/5.7L) used to eat alternators (and starters) such that I was replacing them every few years. Fast forward I just got the warning signs that my F-150's alternator is going. Can't really complain as its the OEM unit with just over 195k miles on it. All that to say I haven't replaced one in a while. These are my choices on Rock Auto. Anyone have a preference?

Um....a good brand. Maybe Ferd Motr company? But at 195k, a rebuilt one will do just fine. It should last as long as the rest of the vehicle, or the major failure that kills the truck.

Haha, touche. Yeah likely going reman but wasn't sure as the only two on that list that I've heard of/used before are ACDELCO and Bosch. I guess I should have asked if there were any to stay away from there.

Are there any old fashioned old school alternator/starter rebuild shops around anymore? Every town used to have at least one.

Motorcraft (OEM) $195, you got 15 years and 195k out of the origional, replace it with an origional.

Desno, Delco, Bosch are the brands I'd pick just because the chances are probably better.
They are all around the same price and not much more than the cheaper ones.

Out of those, Motorcraft.

Yep, a big one right here in Orlando. When I had to replace the alternator on my 2001 F-150 last year that's where I went. Think they charged me like $60 for a rebuild Motorcraft part and gave me a one year warranty with it. So far its doing what it should be doing.

Too bad you couldn't find a Lucas alternator that fits.

Hopefully the Bosch will work out.

I concur. For the price, OEM is the way to go.
