Fighting the good fight |
Shit happens. Unexpected waves. Missing a rung on a ladder. Equipment failures. Simple accidents. Sudden injuries. Etc. SEALs are human too. They stumble, and stub their toes, and get cramps, and drop things, just like everyone else. As mentioned several times earlier in the thread, finding a tiny head bobbing in the ocean is nigh-impossible during the day, let alone at night. Plus, this was an interdiction of a moving vessel, so once you go overboard the boats involved are immediately moving away from you continuously, complicating things further. Beyond that, there's so much that we don't know about other factors complicated things even further. We don't know what equipment and boats they were using. It was a nighttime interdiction, so one can assume they were attempting to utilize stealth and were blacked out, so what capabilities did they have for emergency lighting to aid them in search and rescue in the middle of the pitch-black sea? Etc. There's no reason here to immediately jump to "I don't believe them, it must be a conspiracy"... Nighttime seaborne combat operations are hard, and shit happens.

I know the Coast Guard usually wears PFDs when they are working as boarding parties. Any word on whether or not these SEALs were doing the same? I can't believe they had a chance without them, considering all the gear they were wearing. So sad! I'm not making any claims about anything, conspiracy or otherwise. And I am well aware that shit happens. It is, however, my assumption that these guys work as a team, there are support vessels nearby, they have the proper equipment and training, etc. As such, it is my opinion that there's more to the story.

Hard to imagine that an Army Ranger (from Bn, not just tabbed) missed a 44mm / 1 5/8th in rope necessary for him to get from the helicopter to the ground meters below, but it happened. Hard to imagine that a SEAL would loose an eye in a simunition training evolution because he was wearing ballistic sunglasses, but it happened. Things that the .Mil side of the house do are inherently dangerous. More so in Special Operations Units… not just the “real world applications”, but training as well. I hate to use the cliché, but shit (unfortunately) happens. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot.
