Go Vols! |
The flap disc worked well for me. I had never sharpened with one. Easily went from the sharpness of a spoon handle to kitchen spatula sharpness. Cut through easily but clumped heavily because it had gotten high, even though I had the Gator blades with a completely open side discharge.

Fighting the good fight |
Dang! I'll have to ask at my local Ace the next time I stop in. If mine does the same, then that would definitely be the way to go.

I bought my lawn mower in 1990 and have never had a problem with it and have Never sharpened the blade and guess what. It still cuts the grass. --------------- Gary Will Fly for Food... and more Ammo Mosquito Lubrication Video If Guns Cause Crime, Mine Are Defective.... Ted Nugent

Get my pies outta the oven! |
That’s the advice given to me by my neighbor who turned me on to Honda mowers. He just replaces once a season for $30 rather than trying to mess around with trying to sharpen the relatively light and thin Honda blades. On my old mower which had a heavy steel blade, I’d clamp to my workbench and use a file then some sandpaper to deburr.

A man's got to know his limitations |
I use a bench grinder and a balancing cone on both my mowers. My Dad used a file, which seems like the hard way to me. "But, as luck would have it, he stood up. He caught that chunk of lead." I don't have the tools to do it correctly. My local Ace does it for $8. They balanced it too.

Void Where Prohibited |
I just switched my mower from the mulching blades to the standard blades and put on the bags for the fall. I sharpened the blades on my bench grinder. Quick and easy - 3 or 4 light passes per cutting edge. I don't obsess about it; I'm cutting grass, not performing surgery. The blade doesn't have to be like a precision cutting implement, it just needs a nice sharp edge. "If Gun Control worked, Chicago would look like Mayberry, not Thunderdome" - Cam Edwards
