I approach NDAs carefully. If they are overly broad, I propose an amendment to the agreement. I've also simply not signed the NDA given me because it was overly broad. Once I had to do an NDA during an interview I amended it (handwritten change, in ink, signed and dated). The reason is it was a generic NDA so broad as to be absurd. My amendment stated that the NDA applied only to proprietary information disclosed to me on the date of the interview, at the location where I was being interviewed. No one said a thing.
