Mrs. Ironworker wants a new toaster. There are a bunch on the internet. I am curious what the Sig Forum members think?

I've always wanted a Dualit, but they're stupid money.

I would not recommend Cuisinart because it toasts unevenly.

We had this type when I was a kid. It was my job to watch it, and yell "Pittsburgh!" if the toast started to burn.

Cuisinarts have always done well by me. They toast by time, not by a "doneness" sensor so you do have to adjust for different breads, but this is easy to learn.

They also toast somewhat quicker than some other toasters I have used. Nice wide slots.

The one thing I would change/add is a "bagel - toast just one side" option.

Why are bagels, if toasted, only toasted on one side (inside)? I never understood that.

Because the outside doesn't need to be hot to melt the butter/spread. The only reason to heat up the uncut side is to see how good your burn ointment is. Wink

Also, my 4-slice Cuisinart CPT-640P1 has a bagel setting. It's not a 2-slice but it's a great toaster.

Mine is a 2-slice Black + Decker and has the bagel 'toast one side' button that actually works. At some point it wouldn't stay pushed down so we ordered another. Total POS. It also had a bagel button that toasted both sides so I'm not even sure why TF they put it on there. We returned it.

I wound up taking the malfunctioning one apart and detail cleaning it. It works great again. The SF thread mentioned above convinced me you can't buy one that's worth a sh*t any more without spending hundreds.

Seems about right for today. Guess I bought my last toaster.

As I posted on page 2 in that old 5 page thread, my decades old Kenmore European Toaster Model 238-48339 is still performing admirably. And again should it die I have no clue what I'd buy to replace it.

I just used the "Toast" setting on my Breville toaster oven. Works like a charm and there's one less appliance on my counter.

We've been through several and always went back to a really old one. We ended up with this Hamilton Beach and it's been very nice. Also, it doesn't have over a dozen bottoms like some.

Mine toasts the slice unevenly, the inside toasts faster and both sides are uneven edge to edge so I just stop it after partially toasted, turn it over and rotate, then back down. No huge deal but kind of a nuisance. But it was inexpensive and it's very light which is nice if you keep it in a cabinet.

Per Project Farm research....

Kitchen Aid and Smeg are the best toasters (some of the ones in his review are surprisingly and comically bad at toasting bread or bagels).
