I tried several pairs of wool socks and found that Darn Tough was the best. A few pairs were issued to me initially when I deployed and I found that they were incredibly durable and comfortable. They lasted several years without noticeable wear. I have since purchased their ankle and runners socks too. I also like that they are made in the USA and have a lifetime guarantee.

I've been pleased with Smartwool for thick heavy socks. REI will have them in stock. https://www.sierratradingpost.com/ sells overruns and irregulars and will be considerably cheaper, but the only heavyweight Smartwool men's socks for sale now are smalls. (It is best to shop at Sierra Trading Post off-season when they have what you don't currently want in stock.)

Smartwool and Darn Tough. I have both for hiking and running, The SW is typically a little more luxurious and softer but wear faster and the DT are a little scratchier but wear like iron. Both fit great and the DT has the lifetime guarantee.

^^^this. I have bought many pairs of smart wool from Sierra Trading and have had zero issues. There prices are quite good when you can find them in stock.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should |
Smartwool are great and will last for several years. I usually buy them from Sierra or other off price on line vendors for less than 1/2 retail. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

I used to use Smartwool for most outdoor stuff. Then I tried Darn Tough. I like them a little better and you can't beat their guaranty to replace them if you ever wear them out. I've worn out a few pairs of Smartwool socks over the year. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. My wife was able to pick up 4 pair of those yesterday from an Amish store. She only paid $18 per pair. They are nice and high and will get a good test with the low this weekend supposed to be around 15

Thanks for the tip. I just received four pair of "People Socks" that I bought on Amazon. They look and feel good, and don't slip down your ankles. Do you just put 'em in the washer and dryer along with cotton garments? Serious about crackers.

Exactly. Darn Tough is on sale at REI right now. 25% off. (so is Smartwool). Dollar for dollar, I prefer DT over SW. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." L.Tolstoy "A government is just a body of people, usually, notably, ungoverned." Shepherd Book

Darn Tough specifies that you wash them inside-out with no bleach, but other than that, yes. __________________________________ NRA Benefactor I lost all my weapons in a boating, umm, accident. http://www.aufamily.com/forums/

I’m struggling to find some that go high on the leg but do not cut off the circulation because they are so tight. I have larger calves.

My wife was able to find them at a local Amish store. She snagged 4 pair and I’ve worn them deer hunting several times. They are extremely well made and have kept my feet plenty warm.

I bought a couple pair of Darn Tough socks from Sportsmans Guide a couple years ago. Really really nice cold weather socks. Probably a little much for Eastern North Carolina winters, but they sure are toasty. I'm glad that this thread popped up again. I've been keeping SmartWool sock with a hole in it by my desk as a reminder that I forgot to mention I've never any Bridgedale socks wear out on me. My HE washing machine may be a factor, but I bought likely a lifetime supply of them a while back on Sierra Trading Post. Here are their current listings of overruns and irregulars https://www.sierratradingpost....0/bridgedale~b~2257/

Another vote for smartwool/sierra trading post. Sign up for their email adverts and bide your time to score socks in the $7/pr range. Is your government serving you?
