They just happened to get caught.

During my career in the Navy as soon as we were 50 miles out it was pump and dump. But I think now, at least the Navy has implemented measures to incinerate and or hold most compacted trash until the next port. Funny thing was back then if we had a Soviet intel collector tagging along they would sometimes pick up some of our trash. You might hear stories of Sailors putting Playboy and Penthouse in the trash for the Soviets to pick up but I'd take that with a grain of salt. No Sailor I know would give away perfectly good reading material, especially at sea.

Allision is a violent striking (such as in a collision) with a fixed object. This is in contrast with “vessel contact” with a fixed object such as would be made with bridge fenders in the ordinary course of say a tug and barge passing under a bridge. - Nov 8, 2007

That's gonna need a LOT of duct tape.

We did our second cruise on the Carnival Legend a few years ago and had a really nice time. I spent some time up top observing docking operations and taking photos in one of our ports. I wondered at the time if they ever bumped into each other.

Now I know.

Fuck that guy and fuck their entire company. He also said "Our top priorities are safety, environmental protection, and compliance." Me thinks not.... Stop dumping your trash in my ocean Carnival!!!!!

NO offense, but where on Earth do you think all ships (cruise ships, commercial ships, etc.) that spend weeks at sea, put their garbage? None of these Carribean iislands could even find a place on their island to put the garbage from a day's worth of 1 cruise ship. Where do you think an Aircraft carrier puts it's garbage if it's at sea for 3 months straight? The other issue is all of these islands burn their garbage or dump it too. You can legally dump anything overboard when your 25 nautical miles from shore except plastic.

We are on our annual Christmas cruise, sailing aboard Royal Caribbean’s “Harmony of the Seas”. Today we docked at Costa Maya, Mexico. The Carnival Glory was docked next to us. Plate steel has been welded over the damaged windows on the starboard side with tarps covering the angled stern.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! What a Ride! ~Hunter S. Thompson

I don't care what they do with the leftover tbone or uneaten green beans. Heck I can't even imagine the gray water, or even sewage is going to hurt anything. But throwing plastic and styrofoam in the ocean is not good. Sort that stuff and dump what is safe or haul it all back with you.

Throwing plastic overboard is illegal anytime and everywhere, the same as oil.

I think you are agreeing with me? Maybe not? Let me reiterate. I think plastic in ocean is bad. They did something I think is bad, now if I choose to cruise, it won't be with them because of it. While being angry about them dumping plastics and whatever other violations they committed to earn multiple fines of $$$$$$, I can still understand that it's not practical to haul everything to a landfill and some materials can be dumped with no impact to the ocean. Hopefully I made my point a little clearer.

From the article I linked/quoted.

quote:
Carnival Corp. will pay $20 million after Princess Cruises, a Carnival subsidiary, admitted to violating the terms of its probation from a 2017 conviction for improper waste disposal. A court filing submitted on Monday said Carnival released food waste and plastic into the ocean, failed to accurately record waste disposals, created false training records, and secretly examined ships to fix environmental-compliance issues before third-party inspections without reporting its findings to the inspectors.

I agree with you. Plastic should never be dumped in the ocean.

That's cool. Thanks for posting this. I had not seen how they handled the immediate patching.
