Rosalynn Carter, former first lady, dies at 96

Time for Jimmuh to go, too. He's been dying for years.

Wasn't he in hospice before her sometime last year, or earlier this year? Or, I'm thinking of someone else?

He has had hospice care at home, since February 2023.

Mrs. Carter entered hospice care earlier this week.

By all accounts she was a decent person.

At least she lived long enough to see Jimmy permanently removed from heading the list of the worst Presidents.

God speed.

She’s on my Celebrity Death List here. First one I’ve gotten all year.

My oldest is up to four already this year.

Jimmuh is on Mrs Mikes list

The Carter Administration has the Iranian hostage crisis and Operation Eagle Claw. Biden has the Afghanistan exit fiasco. Both men failures as leaders. Cue all the praise for the Carters now that Rosalynn has passed.

Both true.

Carter was an abjectly crappy President, but I don't think he actually hated America. That's pretty much the nicest thing I can say about him.

I remember Rosalyn as a quiet & classy First Lady. RIP.

But yeah, Jimmy was kind of a failure as a President, in both foreign policy & domestic issues. There was the Iran hostage crisis that was resolved miraculously the same day he turned the Presidency over to Reagan. And then there was the gas shortage.

Yeah, that's the sickening thing... the media will attempt to use our compassion for the Carters to prop up Biden.

Yep. I never got the sense that she used her husband for her personal benefit the way Jill Biden does.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I read that she was a sort of "Co-President" sitting in on cabinet meetings and establishing her own "policy office" in the WH.

Maybe not as benign as we were told.

The energy crises and gas shortages in '79 were pretty memorable, as was the first time I ever heard the words inflation or, as the administration tried to soften the impact calling it, 'stagflation'. You went into grocerty stores and they'd have big signs trying to attract shoppers with 'inflation buster' prices.

The incident at Three Mile Island also happened, with Carter being a nuclear submarine officer you'd have thought he could've helped explain the situation to the pubic but, instead he allowed the press, entertainment and extremist professors to shape the narrative, running wild with nightmare scenarios, thus setting back nuclear energy to this day.

I think they both had good intentions, just a little out of their depth on how things really work.
The rest I'll leave for history to judge.

A primary reason he was elected was Richard Nixon. The country wanted a man who had morals. His brother, Billy provided plenty of entertainment for the rest of us. I do not think Rosalyn and Jimmy engaged in bribery or selling America out to the highest bidder.
