I hope this is okay with a separate thread, as it's not really about the Olympics, but just how amazing this photo is. It was shot during the Olympics, although the surfing is being held thousands of miles away in Tahiti. This is real, no photoshop.

It looks photoshopped but who knows. The video that I saw of it with dozens of individual shots shows it from a different angle which was also cool.

Gabriel's ride on that amazing wave was just stunning. His exit from the wave was pretty darn amazing, too. The photographer who caught that precise moment, from that great angle, documented the proverbial once-in-a-blue-moon moment. That kind of shot in major competitions sometimes makes a person's media career.

I still recall the photo of Hermann Maier's ski crash in the 1998 Olympics. The photographer caught him in mid air, close to being upside down, with a look on his face of "Oh shit, this is gonna hurt."
