Our BluRay player died so this was my justification. Last one I had (or my kids did rather) was the Xbox 360. Seems a lot more complicated now, not that I can’t handle it, just so many options.

With it Forza Horizon 5 was included and I picked up COD Vanguard.

Any advise on do’s and don’ts or must have games?

Not sure when I’ll have time to make the most of it. Probably Saturday and Sunday mornings when Mrs. BRL is sleeping in.

Range report. I’ve been wanting to play the Call of Duty series. I’m trying to decide between pc, Xbox X series or PS5. Prefer pc but not sure what games I can play using an 11th Gen laptop. But consoles are expensive. Be interested in your experience with Xbox.

Forza Horizon is a great series. Forza used to be a hardcore racing sim and they really expanded their reach with Horizon’s open world concept.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a game for all. It is the best all around game I’ve ever played, I think. Such a great story, immersive characters, lively world. Just gripping all around.

I only playing COD on it now and that's getting boring. lol.
I bought two of the Series X (one for me at my house and one for my son at his mom's house) for the purpose of the two of us playing Halo and COD together.

I bought Red Dead 2 and played 20 minutes of it and quit. My son plays a lot more games than I do. I think he and his friends are playing Rainbow Six, GTA5 and Fortnite together. Single player games he likes are the Dead Space and Resident Evil series. He just bought Resident Evil 4 Remake and finished it already.

I'm more of a PC player so I only played Halo and COD on the Xbox with him.

Funny this gets posted since just saw Costco has ps5 bundles for 500 with God of war. Availability must finally have come around.

I got a ps5 last summer to play call of duty and for when college football comes back out. I will say mw2 multiplayer has been good, but the latest warzone is hot garbage and a mess of a game.

The recent COD MWII is solid. Vanguard did not review well. It’s the only one I never bought.

The Ultimate Game Pass is a great way to try a ton of games. If you do not have it, you can or could load up on up to 3 years of the regular Gold game pass which can often be found heavily discounted then convert to Ultimate for just $1. I’d check to see if that’s possible if you are not on Ultimate already.

My Xbox sees more use as our streaming platform. I like that my regular remotes can turn it on. I could not do that with the PS.

My favorite was the Batman Arkham knight series. And Lego Star Wars. And Lego Lord of the Rings.

Surprisingly, the price of games hasn't gone up that much. When I was a teen in the 90s and playing Genesis and Super Nintendo a lot, games were $60-70 back then. If a game had 16mb of memory, that was big time. LOL.

What kind of games do you like? Deep RPGs? Racing? FPS?

I picked one up a few weeks ago, basically for the same reason Smile

Not much of a gamer.

Dead Space Remake was one of the main reasons I wanted a Series X. The system came with Forza Horizon 5, but I'm not much into racing games.

MW2 is on the list to pick up someday.

I’ve not played a game yet. I have a couple of discs but I’m working on the challenge of navigating this damn thing. Entered my email and low and behold an account popped up. I asked my rainman son if the account looked familiar to him and he said “yeah, that’s from 2008 when we got the Xbox 360” we’ll whatever my password was 15 years ago I don’t remember. Somehow I managed to get to a point where I could reset my password, got hung up on part of that and now I can’t get back to it. There’s a few spots wher I can’t get the cursor to light up the box / command I want to get to. Very frustrating.

I also am trying to download the Forza Horizon game it came with (digital). We’ll my internet is slower than Joe Biden. Took me easily 24 hours to get to 85% download. Then while trying to navigate through thing it appears to be gone. I don’t know. I consider myself tech savvy enough to easily stumble through this but that’s not getting me anywhere.

Im on a mission now.

Even if you but the disk, it's just the license and you still have to download the game. I'm not impressed with the menu system, but I did finally figure out how to turn it off. I read you press the big button on the controller, but you have to press it harder than I was in the first place. It seems to be a two stage switch and turning it off requires a harder press than turning it on.

Nothing wrong with that. I used to play, until my arthritis started acting up. My wife still plays online COD and some of players she plays with are 70 y/o and older. You either love playing or you don't.

Enjoy it! I once had COD on my work computer and only played using the keyboard and mouse, and got good enough to use an unscoped rifle to do one shot kills. Got to the point I was running around knifing people and being accused of using cheats.

Last time I tried to log in and play, I looked like one of Jerry's kids having an episode, couldn't do anything well....

Don’t feel bad. I’m 56 and since I can’t stand the fake news or woke tv I bought a PS5 and get spanked and ridiculed by 7 years. Much more entertaining.

Say What? It is taken easily 20 hours of download time to download Forza five. I bought a handful of James tonight‘s but I’m not very excited now if I can’t just pop them in and play immediately in. I’m going to have to control my emotions otherwise Mrs. BRL will be able to shake her head and say I knew that was a bad idea.
