I was thinking of contacting my Congressman to buy a flag flown over the Capital.

My congressman has a section on his web page to order different sizes and different materials of American flags.

Those who have done this what material did you choose and what size?

I do not plan on flying it I was going to put it in a flag display/shadow box.

I was thinking of a 3x5 cotton flag.
Also does it come folded in a traditional triangle?

What do you think.

Thanks

I bought one recently. I chose cotton as it will be displayed rather than flown and I find cotton more appealing then nylon for that purpose.

It came in a rectangular box just big enough for the certificate from your senator stating when it was flown over the Capitol and for what occasion.

The flag was folded into a rectangle as well.

My grandfather would do it for special dates. I have a couple from my birthdays.

My father did. WW2 vet. 12th Armored division.
He put a pole in front of his condo to fly it.
Condo association told him he had to take it down, he told them to go fuck themselves.
He won!! He didn't buy it , it was a gift.

Have one from a date flown during my birthday and also one flown when my [now ex] wife reenlisted me on the USS Arizona. Park Ranger flew it during the whole reenlistment

I can't remember where I saw it, but I believe that there was a court ruling that says an HOA can not prohibit flying an American Flag in Florida.

The two that I have came in a regular flat box and were not "properly" folded. Both were gifts from my family and include certificates indicating the date flown. One is July 4, 1976, and the other was on our wedding date.

Last year, I finally folded them and got them into proper display cases.

Both of them are 3x5 cotton.

My great uncle and aunt both US Navy veterans of WWII and Korea flew one in the yard every day. When one would get tattered he would get another.

I think every congressperson has this option.
I got one flown over the US Capitol for my eagle scout ceremony

Never bought one, but I have two that were presented to me by my representatives - one was my father's for his Navy service, and one is mine, presented to me on my retirement, flown on 11 September. I think any representative can send a flag on request.

Mrs. Mike got me one years ago. It came with a nice letter-which I’ve lost. I have the 5x8, nylon.

BTW burial flags are 5x9.5 and cotton

I did many years ago. I also elected the cotton option. Can't recall lead time or cost, but it was reasonable.

It looks like I will buy the 3x5 cotton flag.

I will wait till after the first of the year then after I get it I will get a shadow/display box for it.

It's Federal law. An HOA cannot prohibit you from flying an American flag as long as you're flying it appropriately.

Yes. Contacted my senator and paid for one. Senator wrote a letter as well to accompany the flag. It was flown over the senate on the day she graduated Air Force Basic.

Maybe a bit off topic but I keep a few brand new flags in the trunk of my car. When driving around and see maybe a small business with a faded or tattered flag I go in and ask for the owner or manager and offer them a new flag for free.
It makes me feel good. And I fly our flag at my home day and night!

Not from the Capitol, but I do have one that was flown on the USS Arizona, I believe on Memorial Day.
