I think it would be best to assess what is in place and then plan the best solution.
I curreently have a cable modem next to my tv, running into a brand new wireless router. I hard-wire the tv from the router. The wifi signal is good in the basement, but upstairs (and especially up on the 3rd level where the girls are) the signal is weaker. If we wanted to add an xbox, or a new tv upstairs, I'm afraid the wireless signal wouldn't be strong enough, which is why I would like to relocate the wireless router upstairs, and still hard-wire our tv in the basement. The patch panel is in the utility room in the basement, about 25 feet from the tv.
