The Komodo, Green Egg and like ceramic grills are great for feeding large families and guests, but for just a couple something smaller would make more sense. Doing a bit of looking around on the interwebs the $125 Char-Griller Akorn Jr keeps popping up. Looks like a heat deflector or smokin' stone with an inexpensive drip pan to complement things would make a lot of sense. Rather stubby so it looks to require a table underneath.

Looking for what the brain trust here feels is a great way to go.

I use my Smokey Joe for grilling for two, no clue what you use for a small smoker. Smoking usually involves large cuts - Brisket, Butts, Ribs, etc. Can't fit that on a small surface.

Medium BGE. 15 inches in diameter. Small turkey, roasting chicken small pizza, couple of burgers 10 or 15 wings, steak, small roast, half brisket, ribs done in a rib rack, perfect for two.

And the Char-Broil Kamander looks promising too. Review here: https://amazingribs.com/grill-...harcoal-grill-review.
Been watching some YouTube vids as well.

The medium sized BGE and like ceramics are a lot more expensive. Frown

Yes, but worth it. I have a large Acorn also and it's a great grill or roaster. It is not airtight enough to smoke. I can't keep it below 350-400. I can keep my bge at 225 or below.

Buy once cry once. I've seen pictures of your audio system... Smile

I've had Big Green Egg's, Webers, Yoder's, Traegers, Green Mountain Grills, Rec Tecs, Chair Broils, etc. over the years.

I sold my Yoder and got a Camp Chef Woodwind SG with Sear Box and it is the best of all of them. I have a pellet grill I can Smoke, BBQ, Roast, cook pizza, and anything else you can do in an oven. On the sear box I can do up outstanding steaks, burgers, or other grilled meats and vegetables.

I can't imagine having anything else at this point. it is small enough to use daily for just me and the wife and big enough that I get to cook the turkey every thanksgiving. Highly recommend.

The little weber table top grill is great for the money for 2 people.

But honestly, the recommendations for a medium BGE are solid as you really don't use any more coal. I'd even go so far to recommend a large if money is not option as you have options and again, how much more coal do you use? I looked at both BGE and Kamado Joe today and after looking closely at both I think the Kamado Joe IS the grill, the BGE should have become.

We have a regular size Weber and medium Traeger. What I fond is when I grill steaks or chicken, indirect heat is my best friend.

The size of the Traeger allows pizza too.

The larger sizes of both provide room when family or friends come over.

Weber 22" kettle works for me. Don't let anyone tell you you can't smoke on it either. Wink Charcoal snake method works great.

I use a small Traeger bought on Fathers Day sale at Costco. It works pretty damn well, and is hassle free.

The Akorn is great with a few mods, just don’t leave it in the rain. I don’t have a covered patio so mine sat in the rain and the metal parts rusted and made it useless. I went to a Camp Chef pellet smoker with sear box. I use it for my wife and I and have zero complaints, I can smoke, grill or sear at 700 degrees with steaks. Plus Camp Chef gives military discounts if you call them and order (at least they have in the past). Their customer service is great too.

I've not had any problems keeping mine in the 225-275 range wherever I want to set it. It did take a fair bit of practice (no meat just coals in the Akorn and beer in my hand) figuring out when and how much to close down the vents, and I have had a few runaways when I wasn't paying attention, but it will seal plenty tight as far as I can tell.

mrvmax is quite right though, you have to protect it from the rain.
