I’ve loathed to dance as long as I’ve been alive. I’ll be 50 next year.
My wife and I have two teenager sons, and one is leaving for the Army next week. So we are trying to figure out what to do when we have an empty nest, which will be in 4yrs.
One of her Mother’s Day gifts from me was some instructional online dance lessons. They are actually quite fun. You do it in your own house, and drink a nice bottle of wine. Then it leads to something else…

I have to concentrate to walk, so no, I can't dance.

Not only can I dance, I've won money doing it. Admittedly, that was many years ago, and it was probably because of my smokin' hawt partner who had a zen-like ability to follow my lead. That said, my memories of dancing with her are the only good memories I have from dating a certifiable bi-polar lunatic.

Last wedding reception I attended, a woman who I have "admired" for decades came up to my wife and I and told us, "You two are just amazing on the dance floor." I was floored! So, maybe, I can dance, or maybe it is that my spectacular wife makes me look halfway competent as she does in so many other much more important ways. Either way, I am delighted about it.

In college, I was on a touring dance group for the school. Also on the tennis team. Now I'm just old.

I can sorta slow dance with Mrs Mike....and that’s the extent of my boogie skills..
But when I was a younger sailor I did drink to excess and wiggle a lot on the floor of a few bars in Kitty Hawk, Virginia Beach, and a few places elsewhere.. it it never panned out for me.

I have never been in a situation where i had to try. Were I to guess based on general physical condition and coordination, the above is likely my answer as well.

Exactly that. I ended up enjoying it immensely to boot.

Not giving a shit as I've aged has caused me to cut loose and move with the music, as apparently I always should have. At my son's wedding last October, a couple of highlights was my almost 4 year old grandson also on the dance floor telling his 30 year old dance partner who he locked up with and didn't want to let go: "My grandpa is a really awesome dancer"
Then the next morning, at a sendoff brunch, my son's father in law asks attendants their favorite moment of the wedding. The brides' sister says it was my dance moves.
In college PE dance class, the head of the dance department picked out a few students who she wanted to try dancing with a dance group. I went once and rocked it pretty well.

When I was in my 20’s I would go to country clubs and downtown clubs and usually the best way to meet a girl was to ask her to dance but that was out for me. It really sucked when I would have a girl ask me to dance and I had to say that I don’t like to dance but wouldn’t mind chatting. They usually walked away to find someone to dance with. I could have learned the Texas Two Step or something but I just had no interest.
That used to be me, though I've always had a lingering interest in partner/ballroom dancing. I liked the idea of moving together w/ a female as opposed to two people dancing next to each other. I worked up the nerve to take some lessons around 2014, and I regret not starting earlier.
Yes, I can dance. I take my dancing pretty seriously, meaning I study & practice dancing, the way other guys practice golf or shooting.
If you're a single guy, then the older you get, the harder it gets to meet people, especially those of the opposite sex. If you commit to it, partner dancing can do wonders for your social life. It makes you much more interesting to women. If you achieve a proficiency level where you stand out positively against other men, women will flock to you. Attractive women young enough to be your daughter will approach you to dance.
Partner dancing seems almost quaint these days as it is filled w/ etiquette & conventions that fly in the face of political correctness and militant feminism. Women who go to dance venues want to be led. They want to be figuratively - and sometimes literally - swept off their feet. A good follower willingly submits to a competent leader. If you know what you're doing, some women will practically melt in your arms.
An especially good dance makes a woman feel as if she's living out a scene from a movie or musical. It makes her feel pretty & special. It's similar to the reason why females make such a big deal about their proms and weddings.
Funny side note - I happen to know quite a few men who study ballroom dancing and also shoot. A couple of them even carry concealed while dancing.

I can get by, but nothing to write home about. I always admired those who could tear up the dancefloor, though.

These days I'd think that was a requirement. . . .
