I have no clue why this crossed my mind but I’m curious if anyone takes vacations in the same state they live?

I’m not taking about you own a hunting camp or visit relatives or a long weekend. I’m taking 5 nights in some type of paid lodging (hotel/rental).

Yes, especially with air travel being inconvenient.

Vacations are w/in 1 day drive each way. Fortunately, lots of great places to go w/in that constraint.

No, because Connecticut is a very small state and also there's nothing interesting enough here to go to for more than a day trip.
We do go to adjoining stars or a state over, though. Still, that's not going very far - four hours driving or less.

I often do camping rides through WV, staying maybe two nights then move to another campground. Sometimes VA too.

No, we typically want to experience something completely different than were accustom, say geographically or culturally. For us, that usually something out west. We are mixing it up a little bit this year, we're planning on taking in Acadia National Park in Maine in October.

Maybe we'll have to get an invite to see our ole buddy PHPaul. Don't know how far he is from Bar Harbor, but it'd be fun to meet him and his work shop. Not sure I could sell the Mrs on that, but if it involves lunch, pretty sure I could talk her into it.

TX is a big state.
When I was a kid, we'd go camping all over with a Suburban & pop-up camper.

Have done a few long weekends in Austin/Dallas/etc as an adult.

What is a vacation?

I haven't had a real vacation in 22 years. Either a major appliance dies just as I get ready to head out, I end up in the hospital, or something like Coof-19 happens.

Saying that, no I wouldn't. I love Kentucky, but if I'm going a vacation, a real vacation. I want to go somewhere different, that I couldn't do on a weekend trip.


Funny thing is, I was walking my pup one day down at the river and ran into a couple. They wanted to see my pup. As we talked they were telling me how beautiful the area was and how much they enjoyed their visit.

Come to find out they were staying at a "camp" just down the road they rented for 10 day from Airbnb. This "camp" is a little cinderblock 700 sqft. place, there is a whole group of them that are summer weekend places, people mostly from Louisville, some local.

Anyways, this couple was from Florida! They basically lived a half mile from the ocean! The Same distance I live from the Ohio River that I walk down to with my pup almost every day. There is no way, I would leave the beach, sand and ocean to come here to the stinking muddhole Ohio River. Especially when it's hotter here then where they were from!

But hey, they were enjoying their vacation, having fun and I gave them a few ideas to go see and nice places to eat.

We live in Southwest Michigan and usually spend a week in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in the fall. As YooperSigs can attest, it's a whole different world up there. Things seem to slow down as soon as you cross the bridge.

Yes 1 week every July/August on the Cape in West Dennis MA. Private beach, friends on the street and I bring my road and MTB bikes for daily rides. The cape has surprisingly good mountain biking. For the road I do the rail trail out to Orleans and back.
Waters fairly warm on the Nantucket sound and no sharks that we know off and we’ve never seen a seal.

I live in Vacationland. Why would I go anywhere?

Seriously tho, we don't do vacations. We have never in 48 years of marriage gone somewhere just to go there.

I got the traveling bug burned out of me by the Navy, and my wife was a Coast Guard brat AND a Navy Wife, so she's even less prone to wanderlust than I am.

Yep. Texas offers a diversity of destinations. Unfortunately, they all suck for mid summer vacations. But plan some trips in early spring or mid-late fall, even winter and it's pretty good. All drivable, though the State is huge. So far, things have stayed reasonably price, save maybe coastal condos and charter fishing.

Only like 1 day trips or weekend getaways.

Otherwise it’s always been NJ or VA

Sure, California is a great place to visit.

Not really. Cape Cod is a big tourist destination for both in and out of staters but having grown up 900' from the beach it does nothing for me. I do enjoy the 2 1/2 hour or so drive up to the white mountains in NH.

Little Column A, Little Column B, we're in Florida, so there are plenty of places we can go to get away for a week or weekend, Panama, St Pete, The Keys, Miami, Sarasota, heck could go stay at Disney for a weekend easy... not cheap though... Typically though, somewhere out of the state...

I’m in the northwest corner of Ohio, I always head north to the Upper P of Mich. it’s about 6 hours to hit the bridge for me, as others have stated, it’s a whole different vibe there, hope to move up there when I retire

CA is big with a bunch of stuff to do. I leave SF Bay for Lake Tahoe or San Diego a few times a year.

Yeah. We got to Fontana Village deep in the NC every year for our Blue Ridge 3000GT gathering. Its a blast for the family and a great time to get car guys together. We also have a week that we spend in New Bern or Atlantic Beach with family to fish for flounder and enjoy the beach.

On occasion: YES! We live in Manchester and have often taken a week up in Pittsburg to hike or bike.

My wife bought a Jeep a couple of years ago and we have been modifying it for trail-riding. Last year, we rented a place up there and rode the dirt roads all week. We did over 200 miles of backwoods roads. One of our favorites was to take a logging road from Pittsburg to Maine and down to Errol, NH where we visited L. L. Cote's (a gun shop). While it would have been shorter to take the paved roads back, we backtracked to the dirt road to Pittsburg.

We often "wheel" with a club and will do Class VI roads in the state on a Saturday. It's her daily driver so my job is to keep it clean. It takes me a few hours after muddin'!
