Yes, but with each passing day, their choice of retailers becomes more limited, so they will have to just suck it up err I mean grin and bear it.

What about doing what sams club and Costco does but with armed guards at the doors?

Is there very much shop lifting at Costco or sams currently?

What good will armed guards at the entrance doors do if the police / prosecutors / judges will not do their jobs????? ..... drill sgt.

They will have to adopt the model of the old Service Merchandise with an online catalog

For all intents and purposes, shoplifting in CA is basically legal in CA, it has been de-criminalized by voters in 2014. $950 is the limit.

At local Walmarts, the aisles containing frequently shoplifted items like cosmetics aren't locked up, but do have prominently displayed and signed security cameras and monitors, also with an audible (and annoying) tone that increases the closer you get to the camera.

That was a bit over seventy years ago, but I can still picture it. Frank was an Italian guy in a Jewish neighborhood, ran a one-man corner grocery store maybe a two minute walk from my grandmother's apartment. He always wore a gray tweed "newsboy" type cap, always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. The total sale was rung up on an old-fashioned mechanical cash register with the little number tabs that popped up in the display window.

I don't know any Costco's around here that have armed guards....you're also dealing with a very different clientele. Membership requirements keep most low-lifes away, the size of the merchandise can also be a deterrent. Maybe, there's idiots that snack/eat product before purchasing but, you just don't hear of foolish/criminal behavior at Costco. Sam's I can't comment on, there's none around.

The only time I know of private security guard being able to justify a legal shooting, is if theft involves money or, a customer/employee is being assaulted, otherwise, they're very limited in whom they can engage with deadly force. Shop lifting isn't one of them, ergo private security is merely there for physical presence and professional witness...and even then, things have become opaque.
You're right, the breakdown in criminal justice system is the light sentences issued, reduced charges and minimization of crimes in order to fit an ideological model by elected members, principally DA's. We're getting to a point where local municipal judges are going to have to outwardly state their positions on crime, prosecution, and how they uphold the legal standards when elections come around, no more rubber-stamping.

$950 is the cutoff in CA between misdemeanor shoplifting charge punishable by up to 6 months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine and a grand theft felony charge. Stealing is still illegal in CA.

I guess they haven't suffered enough in the bay area. Going after the security guard while ignoring property crime will only increase property crime. If you cannot have and protect your property, you are not truly free.

More and more business will continue to stop doing business is these area and urban blight will do the rest.
Then along come the sleazy lefty politicians and professional grievance leaches and blame this all on their favorite boogeyman. And we all know who that is.

I live in a Red District. At Publix, I wanted razor cartridges and I found a sign that read "This product is available through the customer service desk." I saw a line at said desk and thought "I'll order them online."
I was upset by two things.
1. I don't want to make a special trip to the CS desk.
2. Am I living where shoplifting is a problem?
