My rights come from God not government. I actually believe that. But.... not everyone does anymore. It's become a controversial statement.

Once 51% of the population accepts the siren song of socialism, rights become whatever the government determines to be "in the common good" . In other words, there are no more individual rights recognized by a socialist country.

If I find myself living in a socialist country, I will still know that my rights come from God not government, but that the government has become illegitimate. At that point, revolution becomes my obligation.

Preventing the tyranny of the majority was the precise reason the Founders set us up as a republic, not a democracy.

To paraphrase Mr. Franklin, though, we need to work hard if we want to keep that republic.
