“Olympic Games fans have gone into meltdown on social media over a photo of Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec competing in the 10-metre air pistol mixed team event in Paris.

The 51-year-old and his partner Sevval Ilayda Tarhan claimed the silver medal, but it was Dikec's unconventional approach to the competition that has seen his image go viral.

Dikec shot to fame after a photo was shared to social media of him competing in an uncharacteristically relaxed manner without the typical shooting gear - and one hand in his pocket.

Most shooters at the Olympic Games use ear protection when they shoot and don specialised glasses that obscure the vision in one eye so competitors don't have to keep it closed, and sometimes feature tinted lenses to help with glare.

'Turkey sent a 51-year-old dude with no specialized lenses, eye cover, or ear protection, and secured the silver medal,' posted one fan to X - to which billionaire Elon Musk responded, 'Nice'. …”

I like his style. One thing I admire most is if people are humble and genuine. His simple approach communicates that to me.

The way he shoots one hand in his pocket is exactly how I shoot today. I started indoor target shooting nearly 60 years ago. This two handed "movie stance" never appealed to me.

Confused Air pistol competitors are required to shoot one-handed, unsupported.

This is quite common among American target shooters. My offhand fingers go in the waist of my pants belt area.

'Old school' style. As for not using hearing protection, looks like he's shooting an air pistol and it wouldn't be necessary.

^^^ Yep. Years ago when I competed in bullseye shooting, that's how we all did it...off hand in pocket or notched in the pants waist.

That's the way I was taught, blade your body, off-hand in your pocket or, hook-it on your belt, breath.

Much like what we see at the range, some shooters are a bit too consumed with the accessories & peripherals, rather than focusing on solid fundamentals and repeating it. This guy exemplified that.

Yup. You can be sure his fundamentals are damn near perfect, even though he eschews the gee-gaws others use. And not to take away from his minimalist approach, we don't know what lens he may have in his glasses. It may well be something designed specifically for this shooting game.

Cool. It tickles me pink to see some old dude win a silver medal against some of the finest shooters in the world in a T-shirt with his hand in his pocket. Dude looks like he's at a BBQ shoot.

Reminiscent of George Farr at Camp Perry in 1921. Unknown older gentleman without the latest and greatest equipment performs exceptionally well.

How often do you see an Olympic medalist competing with a cigarette dangling from their mouth? Looks like it came from a Western movie starring Clint Eastwood.

Of course I just meant the cigarette one...compared to that in the linked article in the Daily Mail.
