What do you guys recommend for ccw insurance? I used to think it was just a scam. But ive been asked to work the security team at church. Im starting to feel like that extra insurance would be smart. It looks like USCCA has the best reviews. At this time I could only swing their $14 plan.

I'll start by saying that I'm not familiar with any of the CCW specific insurance policies. I have an umbrella policy that covers lawful self defense. I would start by reading what those policies do and do not cover very closely. Most insurance policies cover "accidents" and will not cover a loss that is "intentional". It's one thing to be involved in a self defense shooting when you're sitting in church minding your business. It's another entirely to be part of an organized security team. I'm sure others have already figured this out, but I'm sure in some states "organized security teams" would require state licensing which would require the church to carry a commercial insurance policy. I wouldn't automatically assume anything here without doing a fair amount of research to make sure you're on solid footing. Last thing you want to do is think you're OK, be involved in something, and face all sorts of legal issues that you were not expecting or thought you would be shielded from. Apparently the Missouri Highway Patrol offers some sort of training program for churches. In addition to careful review of the insurance policies, I'd contact them as well (if you haven't already). They'll know the ins and outs as far as the law goes.

I was going to say maybe look at nra carry guard. I don't know anything about it though. But I found this article at the link comparing USCCA and Carry Guard. https://www.concealedcarry.com...t-programs-compared/ ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

I am a member of USCCA, they represent you right off the bat a one call to their team puts everything into motion. An umbrella plan might work for some, but like a1abdj said a lawful self defense coverage. Who determines if it is lawful or not? The prosecuting attorney, a grand jury, maybe then someone at he insurance company? There are too many variables for me. So what’s to say you have a liberal police chief, prosecuting attorney and charge you in criminal court, will the insurance company pay expenses in that instance? USCCA covers you in that instance. They will pay for defense in criminal court and civil court. The way I look at it is I pay for car insurance hoping I never get into an accident. Why would you not also cover yourself In case of a CCW incident. Unless of course you are filthy rich and can self insure and not worry about going bankrupt trying to defend yourself from some liberal gun hating LE agency, prosecutors, grand jury, judge. With USCCA you can cover family members for a little more. They have some good training materials also. Does this sound like an ad for USCCA maybe but I am pretty much sold on their product. NRA offers a new program also. USCCA had been at he NRA annual show until NRA told them they could not come to the show and offered up their own CCW insurance. I guess they didn’t want competition at the show. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Also a USCCA member. When I was researching, USCCA seemed to offer the best value. From what I understand, CCWSafe recently upgraded it's membership plans a nd might be worth a look. Like guns, Love Sigs

I also am a USCCA member. I don’t want to, nor do I anticipate having to use them, but it does help give peace of mind knowing you’re covered. Posted from my iPhone.

I was leaning towards USCCA because of the up front payments that Balzé Halzé posted.

USCCA started from a magazine, developed a richer product with the insurance and training and has been growing like gangbusters. The NRA took notice and started their own program to compete, and cancelled USCCA’s registration for a show they had attended in the past and were registered as a vendor for. The document Balze posted was USCCA’s comparison, I’d expect them to hit on issues that make them look better. Still, the look better and I already get way too much spam (paper mail, email, phone calls) from the NRA...

I’m a Carry Guard member and have been very happy with the service. Spouses are automatically covered at no extra cost among other things. I don’t know about that chart above, I’d call and verify benefits with NRA and USCCA. "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

I have US Law Shiled, $140-ish a year. I like the fact that when you call the emergency number, you get an attorney 24/7. It is not insurance to pay a liability finding though, it is to cover legal costs and keep you out of jail. NRA Life Member "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Teddy Roosevelt

I originally had USCCA and switched to Carry Guard because of the fact that they included coverage for the spouse outside the home wherever they might be, well as inside the home for the premium costs, but I have not been very happy with the customer service, website, or service in general Carry Guard. I've already had them for a few months and after multiple calls to customer service they have as of yet to be able to successfully even get me my membership package or membership cards for my wife or I. I will be switching back to USCCA very soon as while I am an NRA life member, I have not gotten the warm and fuzzy from their insurance coverage experience. -Dtech __________________________ "I've got a life to live, people to love, and a God to serve!" - sigmonkey "Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value." - Albert Einstein "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition" ― Rudyard Kipling

A million dollar umbrella policy on my homeowner's insurance cost me 125 bucks a year. For that I also get a WHOLE lot of other stuff covered.

No legal background background myself but... If asked to act in a voluntary, approved, encouraged or official capacity of any kind I would be looking to the Church to cover me while on the premises. I'd consult with them and their insurance carrier first... then proceed with personal coverage if still deemed prudent. Collecting dust.

This. Don't just look at what's covered. The "exclusions" are often more important. Insurers don't make their money off the claims they DO pay. "Wilful violation of a penal law" is a common exclusion. If the company can't explain exactly how they measure this, walk on by. Do you live in a place where the local prosecutor has a penchant for throwing ALL shootings in front of the Grand Jury? Do they automatically bail out if you're charged (vice convicted?) IANAL, obviously.

From what I remember reading about these policies is that they rescind their coverage if you are found guilty. Given the whims of jury selection, this insurance may be a roll of the dice.
