House Republicans announced Wednesday that they have entered an outline of the controversial "Green New Deal" and a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the sweeping Democratic proposal into the Congressional Record after the document was deleted from the website of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.

"It's very important the American people see that there be transparency about what [Democrats] are pushing," Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., told reporters at the House GOP's weekly press conference. "And we call on (House) Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi, (D-Calif.), to put this up for a vote on the floor.

"We think Democrats need to be held accountable. If they support this as they say they do and as their presidential candidates do," Cheney added," then let's have a vote on it and see to what extent they're all going to get behind moving toward this kind of fantasy."

According to the outline, which can still be viewed using the Internet archiving service Wayback Machine, the Green New Deal is "a 10-year plan to create a greenhouse gas neutral society" through what it describes as "a World War 2 scale mobilization that focuses the robust and creative economic engine of the United States on reversing climate change by fully rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, restoring our natural ecosystems, dramatically expanding renewable power generation, overhauling our entire transportation system, upgrading all our buildings, jumpstarting US clean manufacturing (and) transforming US agriculture."

The outline says the Green New Deal would provide "(e)conomic security to all who are unable or unwilling to work." It also notes that the proposal's goal is "to get to net-zero, rather than zero emissions ... because we aren’t sure that we will be able to fully get rid of, for example, emissions from cows or air travel before then."

Cheney's request for Pelosi to put the Green New Deal resolution up for a vote on the House floor follows a similar move from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who said Tuesday that he would bring the matter before the upper chamber of Congress to "give everybody an opportunity to go on record."

The Green New Deal is already supported by at least five senators seeking the Democratic nomination for president: Cory Booker of New Jersey, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Kamala Harris of California, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota. Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, who could also enter the Democratic primary, is another supporter.

Klobuchar described the Green New Deal as "aspirational" in an interview Tuesday night with Fox News' "Special Report with Bret Baier."

"I see it as a jumpstart," Klobuchar said. "So I would vote yes, but I would also — if it got down to the nitty-gritty of ... actual legislation as opposed to, 'oh here's some goals we have,' that would be different for me."

A seventh potential candidate in 2020, Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, pointedly declined Tuesday to attach his name and dismissed liberal activists' contention that he has to support the Green New Deal in order to prove his commitment to the issue.

"I don't need to co-sponsor every bill that others think they need to co-sponsor to show my progressive politics," Brown told reporters.

Bezos Pulls Out: Amazon Scraps Plan For NY HQ2

As it turns out, those reports about Amazon reconsidering its plan to build one of its "HQ2s" in the Queens neighborhood of Long Island City weren't just trial balloons intended as a warning to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to get his people in line.

Because in a Thursday announcement that will undoubtedly be heralded as a major victory by "Democratic Socialists" like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the e-commerce giant announced that it would scrap its plans to move to New York City, much to the chagrin of Cuomo and de Blasio, who signed off on a $3 billion package of "performance based" state, city and public-private incentives offered to Amazon.

Amazon shares have rallied in the aftermath of the announcement.

But the ramifications for New York State politics will be far more profound.

Amazon didn't mince words in its statement, placing the blame for its decision to deprive the state of what Cuomo's office once described as one of the biggest economic boons in recent decades squarely on the shoulders of progressive New York lawmakers who objected to the deal. Specifically, lawmakers like AOC and confederates in the New York State legislature opposed the massive tax incentive package offered to Amazon (which came out to more than $40,000 in kickbacks for every job the company had promised to create) and the potential for the new campus to shift the gentrification process into overdrive (the main building would have been situated just blocks away from the Queensbridge Housing Project, America's largest public housing project.

After much thought and deliberation, we’ve decided not to move forward with our plans to build a headquarters for Amazon in Long Island City, Queens. For Amazon, the commitment to build a new headquarters requires positive, collaborative relationships with state and local elected officials who will be supportive over the long-term. While polls show that 70% of New Yorkers support our plans and investment, a number of state and local politicians have made it clear that they oppose our presence and will not work with us to build the type of relationships that are required to go forward with the project we and many others envisioned in Long Island City.We are disappointed to have reached this conclusion — we love New York, its incomparable dynamism, people, and culture — and particularly the community of Long Island City, where we have gotten to know so many optimistic, forward-leaning community leaders, small business owners, and residents. There are currently over 5,000 Amazon employees in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Staten Island, and we plan to continue growing these teams.

We are deeply grateful to Governor Cuomo, Mayor de Blasio, and their staffs, who so enthusiastically and graciously invited us to build in New York City and supported us during the process. Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio have worked tirelessly on behalf of New Yorkers to encourage local investment and job creation, and we can’t speak positively enough about all their efforts. The decision to pull out of NYC comes after New York State lawmakers nominated one of the deal's fiercest opponents to a state board that would grant him the power to unilaterally kill the state component of the incentive package. NYC progressives and "Democratic socialists" like AOC can claim a major victory over their corporate adversaries. Queens real-estate brokers on the other hand are reacting with a mix of "shock, anger and disbelief"...

As anyone and everyone who could sought to get in on the real estate buying frenzy, as speculators snapped up condos in the area.

However, New Yorkers who opposed the Amazon deal will probably be disappointed to find that driving away the e-commerce giant won't help fix the subway.

The prospect of luring Amazon to NYC was an all-consuming project for the Democrats who run the state. Cuomo and de Blasio set aside their fierce rivalry to work together to court Amazon, we wonder who will be the first to point the finger at their rival as what we imagine will become one of the most epic blame games in the history of New York politics.

Because it looks like Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has taken a break from snapping dick pics to send Cuomo and de Blasio a giant middle finger.

As a growing number of vacant storefronts dot the city, Mayor Bill de Blasio on Friday said he wants to penalize landlords who leave the shopfronts sitting empty.

“I am very interested in fighting for a vacancy fee or a vacancy tax that would penalize landlords who leave their storefronts vacant for long periods of time in neighborhoods because they are looking for some top-dollar rent but they blight neighborhoods by doing it,” he said on WNYC. “That is something we could get done through Albany.”

A number of recent studies have found retail corridors in prosperous Manhattan neighborhoods are struggling with double-digit vacancy rates, from 27 percent on Amsterdam Avenue on the Upper West Side to 20 percent on a stretch of Broadway in Soho. Five percent or less is generally considered “healthy.”

“It’s the opposite of what you would expect. There’s a real-estate boom going on for the last 20 years. Why does it look like a ghost town? Tribeca, Soho — these wonderfully overpriced, beautiful properties sitting over empty spaces for years,” said Louis Puopolo, exec at Douglas Elliman Commercial.

The borough’s overall vacancy rates doubled from 2.1 percent to 4.2 percent between 2012 and 2017, according to a City Council report published in December. The report blamed landlords charging skyrocketing rents right as brick-and-mortar retailers are struggling with growing online competition.

“Many landlords prefer to wait for area rents to increase before committing their real estate to long-term leases with relatively fixed terms,” the paper from the Economic Development Committee claims.

“If these landlords have deep pockets and large property portfolios, it may make more financial sense to claim a tax loss on vacant property than to rent at a non-optimal value.”

Locals say the abandoned storefronts are an eyesore.

“I feel like the empty stores inspire more vandalism and more people to loiter in the area, it looks so abandoned,” said Steven Ortega, 24, a teacher from Greenwich Village. “The area is being gentrified, and with that comes higher prices of rent. They keep pushing out the old tenants. Landlords should either be fined or have a penalty.”

Residents say they thought it was bad when the chain stores moved in — but no stores is worse. “This neighborhood is just so blah. First it was cute little self-own shops, then it turned into Burberry, Coach and Juicy, and now these stores sit empty. Even my kids even notice,” said Allison Smith, 38, an architect who has lived in the West Village for 12 years.

“I think the store owners should be fined, these are residential buildings — it doesn’t feel nice for neighborhood and pulls the neighborhood down.”

When reached for details on exactly how such a penalty would work, the mayor’s office said it was still in the planning phases.

But it’s not the first time it has been proposed — Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer has already been pushing for such a tax since last year, when her office studied the entirety of Broadway and found 188 empty storefronts — with the most in Morningside Heights.

She also supports a plan being considered by the City Council to require property owners with empty commercial spaces to register in an official database so the city can keep track of vacancies.

“We need to know what we are dealing with,” she told The Post on Friday.

But Puopolo says the vacancies are a two-way street — store owners have unrealistic expectations, too.

“It’s almost unreasonable on both sides — tenant wants concessions, tenants wants to not put guarantees down,” he said.
