I find them most useful when hunting. I used it good year for subsonic 350 legend rounds in a bolt action rifle. I can also use it on my 308 but have not hunted with 308 subs yet.

I would seriously consider one in my home defense firearms. Without suppression, even a 9mm will render you deaf for the fight.

First: Noise suppression on home defense weapon(s) is a good reason, if you ever have to use one inside you will a) protect your hearing, b) protect the hearing of the perp you popped with it

Second: Sound reduction for example at Outdoor Ranges: At some point local laws may restrict operating times at ranges or some soccer mom will spend all her free time trying to get a range near her newly built 4500 sq foot mcMansion that they didn't comprehend people would be shooting nearby, it may just become a requirement for some areas...

Third: They make you look like an Operator on the line, just be sure to wear your tattoo arm sleeves and have a nice full on beard!

Seriously though, helping keep sound down on a home defense weapon will help you be able to hear what is happening in the home should you have to shoot an intruder(s) and as others said keeping the sound down at the range.

Not worth the effort.

I too was put off by the tax stamp, the price of the can, waiting forever, etc.
Now the stamp is free, turn around time for individual form 4 is a week.

My 30 cal can is printed titanium and I figured hell, I can use it on my 5.56 and 6mm ARC if I want.
The second can is already ordered! It is full auto rated and it will fit both smaller calibers and it only cost $269.

Shooting suppressed is just more civilized.

I have shared my suppressed hardware at the range and get big grins everytime.

I kinda feel like a Ninja shooting .22 and 9mm subsonic ammo suppressed. 22 and 9 are the most satisfying lanes of shooting suppressed.

You still need hearing protection to shoot a 5.56 AR suppressed but I feel like it's still worth it to knock the blast down by half. Shooting suppressed is a whole new fun hobby on top of the shooting hobby. There's a revolution that started in 2023 with 3D printed technology that is really changing the industry.
