Move Up or Move Over |
Seems like a hell of an idea and something that could be easily organized at the local level.

When I was younger I once tried to get food at the drive through window as a walk-up. They wouldn't serve me. I ended up paying someone in a car to order for me. God Bless and Protect the Once and Future President, Donald John Trump.

I walked to a nearby joint to eat inside. It was late enough that dining area was closed, but drive thru still open. I walked thru standing between cars waiting my turn. As I arrived at the window, got a few remarks that were easily settled by saying, "I wasn't disrupting his operations and was still a paying customer." Problem solved. --Tom The right of self preservation, in turn, was understood as the right to defend oneself against attacks by lawless individuals, or, if absolutely necessary, to resist and throw off a tyrannical government.

The truck stops I have seen in this area are pretty nice and have decent food. Hot dogs, burritos, chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, you name it. I've grabbed food to eat there lots of times and they were reasonably priced. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

I paid for a year of college at UW-Waukesha working at Cousin's Subs on Grandview in Waukesha. I worked at the one in Hartland as well to earn a little extra money before I graduated from UW-Whitewater. I commuted there from Hartland. It was the last job I had before getting a real job. That was over 25 years ago.

A radio show I listen to just had a caller who was an over the road (OTR) truck driver and the trucks his company uses do not have sleeper cabs so the drivers stay in motels each night. He called in to explain to listeners that he is unable to park his rig in many restaurant's parking lots, and since the virus outbreak executive orders shutting down seated restaurant dining he has been repeatedly denied service when trying to order from the drive-thru. This may not be happening every where, but given the current panic situation and our absolute reliance on truckers doing their jobs, this is a problem...and one of many factors that elected leaders should be considering before hastily issuing executive orders.

Yup. Ask anyone who designs a parking lot and they will tell you everybody drives a Civic.

[sarcasm]Yeah...someone should tell these truck drivers about truck stops. How dare they not exercise judgement on where it makes the most sense for them to stop.[/sarcasm]

Bwaahahaha. Take you and your significant other out to a "truck stop" to get a burger or cup of coffee or a coke and let us know how that works out.

Can we just assume that a person who does this job all day every day is just unaware of the current situation he finds himself in? Really? Try eating every single meal and I do mean every single one out on the road, for decades. You might just have a valid argument. In the past week I’ve encountered just about every combination of service disruption. The common denominator is grab your food and go away. After that it’s a crapshoot, from no fountain or coffee service at all to serve yourself but use a new cup. I’ve walked through a Jimmy Johns drive up, and read notes that said it was forbidden. Let’s also not forget that there is a certain percentage of drivers who are in “critical” industries. They are encouraged to drive every available mile, this includes new rules of service that allow even more miles than normal. These guys are used to being home every day. I know my truck isn’t outfitted for this crap. ----------The weather is here I wish you were beautiful----------
