So this is starting to be a problem. Long haul truck driver needs to get something to eat. Restaurants are all closed. His rig won't fit through the fast food drive thru, so the driver parks his rig somewhere and walks up to the drive thru. The worker says you have to be in a vehicle, and refuses to serve them. Crazy - yes. Is this happening everywhere? No. But it's happening enough so that truck drivers are starting to complain. Has anyone heard about this? Could be a problem if it isn't addressed.

Simple. Park the rig so it blocks the drive through lane. Someone will be out to speak with you in short order.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

There's a huge truck stop on I-80 about ten miles west of us, looks like the many restaurants are open with carry-out only:

"To comply with the law and help prevent the spread of Covid-19, all food will be available for carry-out only."

Sounds like fake news to me. Most of the fast food joints are open for walk ups to the counter even if they don't have the inside seating area open. Order your food and eat it in the truck.

Really? All over Pennsylvania everything is shut down, you can’t even go inside anywhere right now.

We were at a Chick Fil A last night, you could go in and order at the counter, you just couldn't eat there.

Depends on where you're at. Different states and localities are treating it on a location by location basis.

Sounds like fake news to me, more 'oh the government is failing us' bullshit.

Most truck drivers I see are fueling up at the gas station and getting some gas station food to go, then getting back on the road. I don't see them lounging inside at most sitdown places.

What he said^^

With my wife in the hospital, I've been driving two hours each way everyday for the past few weeks.
At least in this part of the country, you can walk into all the fast food joints and carry the food out.
All the Kwik Trip gas stations have all kinds of food (that you have to go in to pay for).

Not here in Wisconsin. I walked into a Cousins sub place for a sandwich today, ordered at the counter and ate it in my car. Ordered a pizza last night and picked it up, just like normal. Bars and many restaurants are closed, but nobody is going hungry around here because they can't find a place to buy prepared food.

I just read that there's a lot of cops volunteering to run food out to the truckers in KY.
Good job!

I’ve had this happen to me before all this rukus. Lobby closed at 10, walk up to the drive through and was told I needed a car to get service. I think that was a Jack in the Box. So yea, I could see this happening, but probably not a huge problem. Just go to a Walmart, but be sure to park within the lines. Wink

Many of the drivers carry provisions on board, are equipped with both refridgarators and microwave ovens. Many of them wont pay the high truck stop costs for meals and snacks. The smallest cup of coffee in a TA is very near 2 bucks. Showers are $14.00 if you dont have a coupon.

I had a Jack In The Box do that to me at 10:03. I was in a truck with a trailer that wouldn't fit between the curbs of the drive through. They were locking the doors as I grabbed the handle and told me that I had to go through the drive through.

So I did. Trailer took out 90% of their landscaping.

Could very well be true. When I was working the road, got a 911 call one night. Turns out it was a trucker, and after hours the drive thru would not serve him as a walk up. I told him "get in," and drove him through.

At one time I owned a mfg company and we owned 2 Freightliners and trailers to deliver our products. I would occasionally drive a truck to visit with our customer and drop his products off. I always carried my own food and drinks and with a microwave and refer never had a problem and didn't get that big driver gut from eating truck stop food.
