As a long time fan of TireRack and never having been thrilled by tire chains generally, I'm highly suspicious that I will no longer be thrilled with TireRack somehow, but we'll see, I guess.

I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888

I've been a huge Discount Tire cheerleader for years now. They have always taken really good care of me, and I've bought a lot of tires there. Here's hoping they can maintain the level of service I'm accustomed to.
"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

I've had nothing but good experiences with both Tire Rack and Discount Tire. I have hope that this will continue post-merger. A good company acquiring a good company is certainly preferable to a crappy company acquiring a good company.
Discount tire has been a strong contender in online sales for sometime now, especially selling on ebay. I have a commercial account with them and have no issues with Discount tires. Hope the merger is good for both.

I've been a Discount Tire customer for about 20 years, and always had good service. There is one about a mile from my home, and they've serviced all my vehicles. Their nationwide presence works, too--I had to have a tire replaced in Atlanta, Georgia while on a trip--no problem at all.
I've never used Tire Rack so have no opinions about them. I presume there are good business reasons for the buyout. As long as it does not affect how DT functions, I'm OK with it.
i bought a few tires from TR. My experience is they have gone down hill. have not used them in a while and when I have looked I found nothing worthwhile.
For like 25 years I have used America’s Tire ( sister co. to discount tire). I moved across country needed a slow leak repaired. Went to the local discount tire and they had me in their system fixed it in 20 minutes. I let them upsell me some new wiper blades because summertime rain in Florida and mine were cracked. They price matched an online price in a few hours via email.
I've used both in the past with good experiences. Discount was local and always provided good pricing and service. Tire Rack was great when I was auto crossing and using R-rated tires to compete with. Unfortunately here in Alaska, Discount has no presence and shipping costs makes Tire Rack impractical.
